The game was tied 21 apiece at half time, when I noticed the score and turned to that channel. Could it be the first time in 135 times that a #16 defeated a #1 in the First Round?
Virginia has the best defense in the country and is coached by Tony Bennett, son of Dick Bennett, who brought UW-Green Bay to prominence and then went to the University of Wisconsin and resurrected that program. Both coaches are among my favorites. Just a week ago Virginia had been cutting down the nets after winning the ACC Tournament. Now, here they were having a hard time against a team I'd never heard of before.
As one paper headlines: "March Madness will never be the same."
