WLS Top 30 for Week of April 17, 1972-- Part 2: 'Suavecito'

25.  GLORY BOUND--  Grass Roots      #34    An underrated group in my book.   Pop rock group formed in San Francisco with Rob Grill on vocals.

24.  THE LION SLEEPS TONIGHT--  Robert John     #3      A great cover.   From Brooklyn.  His next Top 40 hit was "Sad Eyes" which went to #1 in 1979.

23.  THE WAY OF LOVE--  Cher      #7    What a voice  This song just keeps building and gets a full orchestral treatment at the end.  Follow up to "Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves which went to #1 in the fall of 1971.

22.  SUAVECITO--  Malo    #18     A bit of a Latin beat.  Their only Top 40.  The guitar player is Jorge Santana, the brother of Carlos Santana.

21.  *THE DAY I FOUND MYSELF--  Honey Cone      #23    I don't remember it, but it is really a good song with a talking intro.   That's the late Edna Wright singing lead.  She was also the sister of Darlene Love.

Name That Tune (from the above songs):  "In The Jungle, The Mighty Jungle."  Answer below.  --RoadDog

  1. I had no idea that Malo ever made the top 40. Around 1975 I found an album in a cutout bin and figured no one else had ever heard of them.

  2. And to think that when it first came out, you were a young whipper-snapper of 23.
