WLS Top 30 for Week of May 15, 1972-- Part 5: 'Morning Has Broken'

These were the Top Ten songs in Chicago fifty years ago according to powerhouse WLS, 890 AM.

* means the song was rising in the charts.  The number after the artist refers to how high the song got on the Billboard Hot 100 national charts.

10.  SYLVIA'S MOTHER--  Dr. Hook       #5    How many young people would have any idea what "40 cents more for the next three minutes" means?

9.  MORNING HAS BROKEN--  Cat Stevens   #6

8.  BABY BLUE--  Badfinger     #14

7.  LITTLE BITTY PRETTY ONE--  Jackson Five    #13

6.  DAYDREAMING--  Aretha Franklin     #5

5.  SUAVECITO--  Malo      #18     You know who's brother.

4.  LOOK WHAT YOU DONE FOR ME--  Al Green      #4    My favorite of all these songs on this record chart.

3.  BACK OFF BOOGALOO--  Ringo Starr  #9   He had seven straight Top Tens (including two #1s) starting in 1971.  Who'd have figured?

2.  OH GIRL--  Chi-Lites     #1

1.  THE FIRST TIME EVER I SAW YOUR FACE--  Roberta Flack       #1      The last two are great belly rubbing songs and also would be great wedding First Dance s for newly weds.

Name That Tune (from the above songs):  "I'd Be In Trouble If You Left Me Now."   Answer below.  --RoadDog
