Today Is National Vietnam War Veterans Day

And, I am sorry to say, this snuck up on me.  It wasn't until I went to Granny's Diner in Johnsburg this morning and met up with the group from Sunnyside Tavern that someone mentioned it.  We had two Vietnam veterans there, George and Kevin.

I thank you both for your service.

The McHenry American Legion in McHenry, Illinois, is having an open house for any and all Vietnam veterans today with sandwiches and thank yous.

My flag is flying today.

All my blogs except one today will be about the Vietnam War.

I'd Celebrate That!!! Feb. 15-17: National Cabbage Day Today

Need a reason to toast or roast on any given day?  Here are some ideas.  (From Checkiday.)

FEBRUARY 15

NATIONAL GUMDROP DAY    They taste ok, but really get stick in the teeth.

NATIONAL I WANT BUTTERSCOTCH DAY--**  I really loves my butterscotch.

REMEMBER THE MAINE DAY--  Sunk in Havana Harbor this date in 1898.  Led to the Spanish-American War.

FEBRUARY 16

DO A GROUCH A FAVOR DAY--  **  Make him or her a nicer person.

NATIONAL ALMOND DAY--  **  One of my favorite nuts.  "Sometimes You Feel Like A Nut, Sometimes You Don't."

WORLD WHALE DAY--  **  Wonderful and impressive creatures.

FEBRUARY 17

NATIONAL CABBAGE DAY--  **  Hey, one of my favorite cabbage times is coming up, St. Patrick's Day.  Corned Beef and Cabbage.  YEAH BABY!!

NATIONAL  CHAMPION CRAB RACES DAY--

NATIONAL PTA FOUNDERS' DAY--  **  The Parent Teacher Association was formed on this date in 1897.  Anytime parents and teachers work together, that's good for the kids.

And, A Little Green Beer.  --RoadDog

The 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812

Todays marks the United States declaration of war on England back in 1812, starting the War of of 1812,  This is a largely forgotten war, but I started a blog on it back in April, Not So Fortgotten: The War of 1812.  I must admit that I have found out a lot about it in my research.

Take a Look at the Blog.  --RoadDog
