WLS Top 30 Songs for Week of June 14, 1971-- Part 1: 'Funky Nassau'

These were the songs on Chicago's WLS Survey fifty years ago this week.  A lot of them were played on Bob Stroud's Rock and Roll Salute to the Summer of 1971 last Sunday, June 6.

*ALBERT FLASHER--  Guess Who      #29     Group formed in 1963.    The Pride of Winnipeg, Manitoba doing some barrelhouse boogie.

*FUNKY NASSAU--  Beginning of the End    #15    Just try to listen to this one and not start moving.  I dare you.  Their only hit.   From the Bahamas.

30.  *I'M THE ONLY ONE--  Lobo     #9      Never heard it before.  What's you cat's name?

29.  *BRING THE BOYS HOME--  Freda Payne      #12     This one sure goes with the times.  Produced by that hit trio Holland. Dozier and Holland for Motown.   Had two other Top 40s in 1970 with "Band of Gold" (3) and "Deeper and Deeper" (24).

28.  *HERE COMES THAT RAINY DAY FEELING--  Fortunes     #15    English pop quintet.    Had a #7 song in 1965 with "You've Got Your Troubles."

27.  *MR. BIG STUFF--  Jean Knight      #2      Some real fine soul.   Her only Top 40 hit.

26.  *YOU'VE GOT A FRIEND--  James Taylor    #1      Born in Boston in 1948.
