Actor, entertainer, singer, songwriter. Had Top 40 UK singles in the early 1960s. Never had a Top 100 hit in the United States.
In 1963, toured with the Beatles on their first British tour. Helen Shapiro was the top act on the tour. He also is known as the first artist to cover a Beatles song, "Misery."
