WLS Top 40 for September 8, 1969-- Part 1: "Put A Little Love In Your Heart"

(D)  means debut.  The number after the artist is how high it got on the Billboard Hot 100.

40.  HOT FUN IN THE SUMMERTIME--  Sly & the Family Stone    (D)    #2    One of the greatest-ever summer songs, but not out until September?  Should have been out in June.

39.  TRACY--  Cuff Links     (D)     #9     Their only Top 40.  Great pop music, even if it is just 2:13 long.

38.  PUT A LITTLE LOVE IN YOUR HEART--  Jackie DeShannon      #4    Her biggest hit.   A little love is always a good thing.

37.  SWEET CAROLINE--  Neil Diamond       #4     Full title:  "Sweet Caroline (Good Times Never Seemed So Good)."     Come on!  You know what to say!!

MAH-NA-MAH-NA--  Pete Howard      #55    One really neat novelty song. I can almost see the Muppets and Benny Hill doing it.  I don't know why they said this was by Pete Howard.  The performer was Piero Umiliani who did the musical scores for spaghetti westerns.  Right, Clint.  From the movie ""Sweden Heaven and Hell."  Background tune on the "Benny Hill Show."
