WLS Top 30 for Week of August 10, 1970-- Part 1: "Neanderthal Man"
July 13, 1970 was WLS' last time publishing the Top 40. They reduced it to the Top 30 on July 20. They also added HBD (Hit Bound). As usual, the number after the artist is how high the song got on the Billboard Hot 100. * Means the song was dropping down in the charts.
HBD I WHO HAVE NOTHING-- Tom Jones #14 Typical Tom Jones song. The voice just goes withy the music. A comment said this song could have been a James Bond theme. I agree.
HBD GROOVY SITUATION-- Gene Chandler #12 Kind of starts like "Little Green Apples." Can you dig it? A comment said it brought back Vietnam memories.
30. *THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD-- Beatles #1 Kind of relates to today. A very troubled time.
29. *A SONG OF JOY-- Miguel Rios #14 All those foreign words. Lots of foreign comments. An opera/symphony goes to pop music.
28. NEANDERTHAL MAN-- Hotlegs #22 (D) This is one cool song. A comment said "I'm the Covid Man, You're the Covid Girl." Their only Top 100 hit. They eventually evolved into 10CC. Doing all sorts of things in a Neanderthal way.
27. LOOKING OUT MY BACK DOOR-- Creedence Clearwater Revival #2 (D) As I have said before, my favorite 60s/70s group.
26. *SILVER BIRD-- Mark Lindsay #25 What happened to Paul Revere and the rest of those Raiders?
Name That Tune (from the above songs): "Just Got Back From Illinois Lock The front Door Oh Boy." Answer below. --RoadDog
