Singer, songwriter and lyricist with the Grateful Dead.
Born Robert Burns and reportedly was great-great grandson of Romantic poet Robert Burns. When his mother remarried, he took the name of his step-father. Became friends with Jerry Garcia before the Grateful Dead was formed.
Wrote the words to many Grateful Dead hits, including:
