Listen to this man. Seven years of college, you know. Trying to reason with 2020 and, now, 2022.

It's a Summer Thing 1970-- Part 5

Finishing up on Bob Stroud's Final Salute to the Summer of 1970, finally.

Back to a great summer between my freshman and sophomore years at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb.

INDIANA WANTS ME-- R. DEAN TAYLOR-- Brand new debuting on our radio. (Love the siren. I song this song every time we enter Indiana. Just ask Liz.)
FRESH AIR-- QUICKSILVER MESSENGER SERVICE-- new album "Just for Love." (Wonder how they came up with that name?)

SIGNED, SEALED DELIVERED I'M YOURS-- STEVIE WONDER-- in the Top Ten. (One of my favorite Stevie songs.)
ADD SOME MUSIC TO YOUR DAY-- BEACH BOYS-- a stunning production from an album by the Beach Boys that had just been released. They left Capitol Records after all those years and now were with Warner Brothers Reprise. The first single from the great "Sunflowers" album. (Never heard this song before.)

ALL RIGHT NOW-- FREE-- Great new band from England debuting this weekend. (When you say Rock and Roll, you say "All Right Now." It doesn't get any better than this.
GO BACK-- CRABBY APPLETON-- A great one-hit wonder. On our Rock and Roll Roots Vol. 2. (A Really fine one-hit wonder.)

HO-DE-HO-- BLOOD SWEAT & TEARS-- The first single from their third album. A Carole King song.
IT'S UP TO YOU-- MOODY BLUES-- Just a couple weeks old at this point in time. Their new album "A Question of Balance. Lead off selection from side 2, a Justin Heywood tune. (A great album cut that should have made Top Ten, but didn't.)

And the #1 song in Chicago September 5, 1970:

WAR-- EDWIN STARR-- Motown's Edwin Starr. (And a war that was never going to end.)
