Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, that is.
From the September 29th Chicago Tribune.
On September 28th this year's nominations for the Class of 2011 were announced. Winners will be announced in December and induction will occur March 14th in New York, even though it should be in Cleveland at the Hall of Fame in my mind. The article mentioned a "potentially karaoke-friendly vibe" to the class.
The nominees:
Alice Cooper
Beastie Boys
Bon Jovi
Chic
Chuck Willis
Darlene Love
Dr. John
Donna Summer
Donovan
J. Geils Band
Joe Tex
Laura Nyro
LL Cool J
Neil Diamond
Tom Waits
I will be posting my five picks.
Quite an Impressive Group. It Will Be Hard to Select from Them. --RoadDog

While waiting to hear your five picks, here are mine:
Alice Cooper - I don't know if the nomination is for the band Alice Cooper or for the person Alice Cooper, but either way Alice Cooper was clearly talented, and clearly influential.
Beastie Boys - An astounding career in many different genres. Started out as hardcore, gained popularity as rock rap, and then permutated into several other styles. Good videos also ("Sabotage" is a classic if you're over 40.)
Chic - It was a toss-up between Chic and Donna Summer, but in the end the production credits of the chief Chic'ers caused me to lean this way.
Neil Diamond - One of the most talented people in his genre of music.
Depeche Mode - Yes, I know they're not on the ballot, but they're eligible, and they're at least as influential (if not more so) than any of the other nominees. And when did Neil Diamond ever fill the Rose Bowl?
Definitely a hard group to pick from. I'm still thinking of my list.
At this point I'm going with Alice and Neil for sure.
All of them deserve a spot, but look at how long it took the Hollies and Dave Clark 5.
