The Chain Flood of 2017-- Part 5: "How High's the Water Mama?"

SATURDAY, JULY 15

I went to where the boat is docked in Rick's channel.  Happy to report it is still there, just a lot higher.  The top of the windshield, is about as high as Rick's deck.  Best yet, it is still tied, but I worry about the water rising high enough that the rope knot will slide off the top of the plastic pole.

The pier was mostly underwater yesterday, but now is a little above the water as the it is floating.  Sure hope the poles hold.

Headlines in yesterday's Chicago Tribune "Record flooding likely for Chain O'Lakes, Fox River."  That'd be us.

It hasn't rained since Wednesday morning, thankfully, but we're getting runoff from Wisconsin....and lots of it.  Thanks a lot Cheeseheads!!  The Fox River in New Munster, just over the border, is expected to crest at 17.4 feet, 2 feet above its previous record.

So, it is strange to see the lakes rising even with no rain.

Last night, one of the songs played in the "water set" was Johnny Cash's "Five Feet High and Rising" or is it "How High's the Water Mama?"  A real good song for these days.

The latest I heard about an hour ago is that we can expect about another foot of water.
