Listen to this man. Seven years of college, you know. Trying to reason with 2020 and, now, 2022.

$5, $5 Dollar Footlongs

That little tune can sure get in your head these days. It's all over TV. Once you get it in your head, you're good to go humming it for several hours. Stop it right now, I know what you're doing!! As Cousin Barn would say, "Nip It!! Nip it in the bud!!"

The November 10th Business Week had an article about the phenomenon which has pretty well put poor Jared out to pasture for Subway. It actually started five years ago when Subway operator Stuart Frankel had two small shops at either end of Miami's Jackson Memorial Hospital.

He noticed his stores did very little business on the weekends, so on those two days he sold foot longs for $5, about a buck less than they usually cost. Eventually the Subway Corporation adopted it and it is all over the place and has helped generate $3.8 billion in sales.

FAST-GROWING COMPANY

Subway is the fastest growing fast food place thanks to the low-cost franchising system. Currently, some 40 new stores open a week. Subway is in line to pass McDonald's in total stores early next year.

Top Subway brass were getting tired of Jared Foyle who lost 245 pounds on a diet of Subway sandwiches. They also envied the success of McDonald's Dollar Menu. This is why we have that incessant and irritatingly addictive song in our heads.

She was only a whiskey maker, but he loved her still.
