Some more songs from that great college year for me. And, Bob Stroud will feature the Summer of '71 three more times, the first Sunday in July, August and September.
POWER TO THE PEOPLE-- JOHN LENNON-- A different take. (Here we have three songs by former Beatles)
TOO MANY PEOPLE-- PAUL McCARTNEY-- Lead-off track of one of McCartney's best solo albums only a few weeks old at this time. Name of the album? Ram. (One of my favorite Sir Paul songs.)
HERE COMES THE SUN-- RITCHIE HAVENS-- his cover of a George song. (Always remember him doing this in the "Woodstock" movie.)
IF-- BREAD-- from new album, Manna. (The masters of smarm doing a big smarm. But, I still like them.)
FEELING ALRIGHT-- GRAND FUNK RAILROAD-- Their version of the classic Traffic track. From Survivor.
INDIAN RESERVATION (LAMENT OF THE CHEROKEE INDIAN)-- RAIDERS-- They had dropped the Paul Revere and...at this point. Hit bound. Two and a half years earlier, an English singer by the name of Don Fardon scored a top 40 hit with the same tune. (But, the Raider version went to #1, talk about your anti-British thing.)
IT'S TOO LATE-- CAROLE KING-- "A" side of first song. Blasted Tapestry album into the stratosphere. Climbing the charts.
By the way, a happy 69th birthday to Paul McCartney, turning 69 tomorrow. Sunday, Bob Stroud will be featuring McCartney live in honor of it on his Rock and Roll Roots show on WDRV in Chicago. Last Sunday, WXRT's Terri Hemmert featured nothing but Paul on her Breakfast with the Beatles show.
