Last Monday marked the 30th anniversary of MTV, that great source of music videos that was sort of a touchstone of the eighties for many folks, including me when we finally got around to getting cable TV in 1982 (that's when cable came to Round Lake, Illinois).
I immediately liked MTV and watched it a whole lot. I kept thinking that this would have been a great thing to have back in the 60s and 70s, when you only rarely had the opportunity to see your favorite performers.
Imagine being able to see them 24-hours-a-day!!!
I came across an article dated August 2, 2011 in Music Blogs by Shawn Amos. He listed the first ten videos played by the station and had a place where you could see those videos.
In case you're wondering what they are:
1. VIDEO KILLED THE RADIO STAR-- Buggles
2. YOU BETTER RUN-- Pat Benatar
3. SHE WON'T DANCE-- Rod Stewart
4. YOU BETTER YOU BET-- Who
5. LITTLE SUZI'S ON THE UP-- Ph.D
6. WE DON'T TALK ANYMORE-- Cliff Richard
7. BRASS IN POCKET-- Pretenders
8. TIME HEALS-- Todd Rundgren
9. TAKE IT ON THE RUN-- REO Speedwagon
10. ROCKIN' THE PARADISE-- Styx
Then, of course, we had that Dire Straits song and the Old Beav and Butt Show.

GROANER: What's the difference between a bad golfer and a bad skydiver? A bad golfer goes Whack, DANG! A bad skydiver goes Dang, Whack!!
That was bad.
