Down in North Carolina: Tuesday-- Hurricane Prepping and Eating

TUESDAY, AUGUST 23rd

Ended up with pinched hands, sore fingers and sore toes from closing those lousy hurricane shutters. I'm sure one of the condos had never ever closed theirs, which made it even more fun.

Mom and I went to Holly Ridge, about 12 miles away from Topsail (pronounced Topsul) Beach and drove around looking for remnants of World War II Camp Davis which in 1943 had 113,000 soldiers, but no trace is up by the road. Mom says a lot of chimneys are set back in the forest that now covers the base.

Had a great senior dinner at the Smokehouse Restaurant on US-17. For $7 I got a huge order of Carolina-style bbq and two sides. Mom had a likewise piled-high plate of Calabash-style shrimp for $9.

Back at the beach place, showed Mom how to get on the internet so probably will have to start watching what I write.

The Weather Channel is going nuts with their Hurricane Irene coverage. Hurricanes=big bucks for them. They already have a guy at Wilmington getting ready to stand out in the storm.

Of course, I've already had as much of Irene as I care to have.

Goodnight Irene and Go Somewhere Else, Hopefully Out to Sea. --RoadDog

UNIVERSAL TRUTHS: I think the freezer should have a light as well.
