Listen to this man. Seven years of college, you know. Trying to reason with 2020 and, now, 2022.

What Were You Doing July 31, 1971?-- Part 6

Why, 40 years ago I hadn't even started teaching yet. At the time I was a fresh-scrubbed, essentially hairless guy in Virginia trying to avoid the drill instructors as much as possible and learning that "Forced Hikes or Marches" were even worse than PT. Running them would have been MUCH easier.

Continuing with Bob Stroud's Rock and Roll Roots salute to the Summer of 1971, Part 3.

THE STORY IN YOUR EYES-- MOODY BLUES-- They had just released their new album, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour.
NEVERENDING SONG OF LOVE-- DELANEY & BONNIE-- In the Top Ten.

LOVE THE ONE YOU'RE WITH-- STEVE STILLS-- Earlier in the year we had gotten it from Stephen Stills. Brand new and debuting on Chicago charts.
MOONSHADOW-- CAT STEVENS-- From Teaser and the Firecat. (This past week, I was looking out the window at night, and with the full moon and no clouds, I sure could see you-know-what.)

SOONER OR LATER-- GRASS ROOTS-- From the late-great Rob Grill (who died a couple months ago.)
HIGH TIME WE WENT-- JOE COCKER-- current release. (Still can't sing.)

MOTHER FREEDOM-- BREAD-- brand new. (Not always schmaltzy ballads.)
WON'T GET FOOLED AGAIN-- WHO--This was issued as a single mix before the album came out, a couple weeks away. The 45 was an edit of the eight-minute song from Who's Next. Making its debut on the Chicago radio charts.

HOW CAN YOU MEND A BROKEN HEART-- BEE GEES-- If you're listening to the Summer of '71, you've got your songs, you've got your albums that just scream that summer. This is one of those songs for me, maybe because it was actually number one on this date, forty years ago. (I liked their 60s stuff better, especially when I was trying to figure out if they were the Beatles in disguise.)

Wait, There's More. --RoadDog

UNIVERSAL TRUTH: "Do not machine wash or tumble dry" means I will never wash this-ever. (How do you turn on the machine anyway?)
