These are the coronavirus figures for April 5, 2020, for select countries with both cases and deaths.

UNITED STATES:  311,658 (the most in the world),  8,492 deaths

SPAIN:   130,759, 12,418 deaths

ITALY:  124,632,  15,362

CHINA:    81,669,  3,329 deaths

RUSSIA:   5,389,  45 deaths

INDIA:   3,374,  77 deaths

I'm telling you, something isn't right.

Still Wondering About the Russia "V" Stats

As of yesterday, March 29, these are the total number of cases and deaths in select countries.The worst hit so far:

United States:  124,697 cases and 2,227 deaths
Italy:  92,472 cases and 10,023 deaths
China:  81,439 cases and 3,300 deaths
Spain:  78,797 cases and 6,528 deaths

Then, there are these countries:

India:  979 cases and 25 deaths
Russia:  1,534 cases and 8 deaths
Mexico:  993 cases and 20 deaths

Looking at the rest of the countries, it appears that the smaller a country is and the poorer a country is, the fewer the cases.  Or, perhaps they just aren't or can't report the cases and deaths.  We know that Russia is extremely secretive.

I sure would like to know the story with Russia and why Mexico and India are so low.

Rosa Parks Day**  It took real courage to do what she did.  White folks in the South back then weren't particularly understanding.
National Homemade Soup Day**  Nothing like it on a cold day.  Shoot, I'll even take it out of a can. National Stuffed Mushroom Day**  Just let me see them on a buffet line!!!

FEBRUARY 5--
Chinese New Year**  They've sure been around a long time.
National Weather Persons' Day**  Used to be Weatherman's Day.  I hear what they say and then look outside, though.
Western Monarch Day*8  One really beautiful butterfly.  Always makes my day to see one.  And Mom always said that Dad came back a a butterfly.

FEBRUARY 6--
National Frozen Yogurt Day**   Mmmm, yogurt, or is it ice cream?
Lame Duck Day    For those politicians running out the rest if their term after either losing an election ir retiring.
Pay a Compliment Day**  Everyone can use a compliment every now and then.

FEBRUARY 7--

Rose Day**  Love roses.  Hate the thorns.
National Girls and Women In Sports Day**  They deserve credit.

How Many Times Can You Watch "A Christmas Story" Before You Go Nuts

I watched it three times during TBS' 24-hour marathon starting at 6 PM Christmas Eve. To the best of my knowledge, I did not go crazy. Liz and Kora, however, thought I had lost it. Hey, I really LIKE this movie.

Not only do I like what transpires, but also, it was just in another time and era. I liked the old city, the overloaded electric sockets, old schools. Everything. The spoken lines were great too.

The Votes Are In

The voting for the 25 Chicagoland preservation sites is over, having ended October 10th. I know I voted early and often in true Chicago style, even if many of my first ones went for the Viking Ship and GAR Hall. That was before I knew you could only vote once a day and just for one place. After that, all my votes went to our local Spring Grove Fish Hatchery.

It ended up in 10th place with 4 % of the vote, after a climb from #19 and 2%. That was not bad for a small community of about 4,000 considered all the people living in Chicago. The winner was the On Leong Merchant Association/ Pui Tak Center in Chicago's China Town.

Of the sites I supported: #3 was the Viking ship in Geneva with 11%, #9 the GAR Hall in Aurora, and #22 the Petersen Historic Farmstead in McHenry.

The On Leong Building will get the full amount of their request. The rest of the $1 million will be awarded on November 13th. So here's hoping for the Viking Ship and fish hatchery.

A big thanks to American Express for putting up the money. It is definitely important to save as much of our heritage as possible and whenever possible.
