The Very Best of Outlaw Country: 'The South's Gonna Do It Again'

Several months ago, I was in Wal-Mart going through their bin of close out CDs and found this great little nugget for the whopping price of $5.  Well, quick as a wink, I grabbed it.  I wasn't going to let it get away from me.

I already had most of the songs on other LPs, CDs and cassettes, but this collection would fit in just great in my Ultimate Jukebox.

And, besides that, I am a real big fan of Outlaw Country.  One of my favorite albums, of course, is "Wanted! The Outlaws."

Here are the first five songs of this new CD:

Music Deaths: Richie Albright, Long-Time Drummer with Waylon Jennings

RICHIE ALBRIGHT, 81

Died 9 February 2021

Long-term drummer for Waylon Jennings and member of Waymore's Outlaws (to carry on after Jennings' death in 2002).

Aided in the development of Jennings' Outlaw sound.  Joined Jenning's band, the Waylors in 1964.  Waylon even named his son Waylon Albright Jennings "Shooter."

1966:  CHARLEY PRIDE, the first black country superstar, hits the charts.

1969-1971  Buck Owens and Roy Clark (with those great sideburns) host country music/comedy show HEE-HAW, a nationwide TV hit.

1973  OUTLAW MOVEMENT [Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and crew] hits its stride.

1986  DOLLYWOOD:  A Tennessee theme park gets a new name after Dolly Parton.  The park gets some 3 million visitors a year who get a slice of country life and lots of country music.  Puts Sevierville and Pigeon Forge on the map.

1989  Enter GARTH BROOKS, the No.-selling solo artist (in any genre) of all time.
