Now That Halloween Creep Has Begun, How About A Scary Song?

Now that the stores are selling off or putting away their Back-To-School Creep stuff, I see that they are starting to put out the Halloween Creep stuff--  two months early..

As I was making entries on the blog today, I am listening to You Tube which has made one of many personal listening sets based on songs I have played on their service.  They do an absolutely wonderful job of it.

An hour or so ago, they put on the Guess Who's "Shakin' All Over." on my Mix:  Illusion "Did You See Her Eyes."  I wish I had known about this song as a good scary one back when I was deejaying as I absolutely would have used it in my Halloween shows.

And, this version is played along with Walt Disney's scary 1929 "Skeleton Dance" cartoon.  They go perfectly together.

Check out St.PeteArtisan's  "The Guess Who - Shakin' All Over --  Skeleton Dance on You Tbe.

Here's an Idea for Future "Cars" Movies

I know Disney might be a bit put-off by how poorly the second "Cars" movie did (and I thought it was ok, but just not the same as the first one which I really liked). But, I have ideas for new ones. //// The gang should take a road trip on Route 66 and encounter obstacles and interesting characters on the way. That keeps closer to the original soul of the movie. //// Maybe even a trip on the Lincoln Highway to celebrate its 100th anniversary. They could go back in time and help the 1919 Army convoy. //// Just a Thought. --RoadDog

Another List of 2013 Movies That I Mostly Saw

From the Jan. 5, 2014, Chicago Tribune "Disney's dizzying year" by Jonathan Berlin and Chad Yoder. //// Disney had a good year in 2013 leading to $1.7 billion domestic and $4.7 billion worldwide. //// They released nine major films. In order of domestic earnings in millions(* means I saw it): 1. *Iron Man 3, $409 //// 2. Monters University $268.5 //// 3. *Frozen, 263.1 //// 4. *Oz the Great and Powerful $234.9 //// 5. *Thor: The Dark World 202.5 //// 6. Planes, 90.3 //// 7. *The Lone Ranger, $89.3 //// 8. *Saving Mr. Banks $44.1 //// 9. Delivery Man, 29.7. //// And, I would have liked to have seen "Monsters University" and "Planes." I have gotten to be a huge fan of animated movies. "Saving Mr. Banks" is still at the theaters, so it will go up, but I doubt that it will be too high (even though it is my favorite of all of them). //// I liked all of the movies I saw from Disney. "The Lone Ranger" was the big "flop" and was described in the article as the "John Carter" of 2013. I thoroughly enjoyed it (and, I really like "John Carter" as well). //// My top three favorites in order: 1. Saving Mr. Banks, 2. Oz the Great and Powerful, 3. The Lone Ranger. //// I will have Disney's highest grossing films by year from 2000 in my Cooter's History Thing blog today. //// Pass the Popcorn. --RoadDog

My First Crush Dies At 70: Annette Funicello

From Wikipedia.

ANNETTE FUNICELLO (1942-2013)

I was listening to The Surf, 94.9 FM from North Myrtle Beach, SC, when I heard the news that Annette Funicello  had died after a long battle with MS at age 70.

I remember rushing home from school to see her and the other Mouseketeers on that Mickey Mouse Club TV show back in 1st to 3rd grades in Raleigh N.C..  I see the show lasted only from 1955 to 1959.  Somehow, I thought it went on for longer than that, but everything back at that young age seemed to last forever.  Well, it was on every day Monday to Friday, perhaps that is why it seemed to go on so long.

I mean, though, that was one really cute girl and she always looked right at me.

Then, we both graduated to those Beach Party movies with Frankie Avalon, the lucky dog.  Going out with my gal.

Some history.

Annette was the only Mouseketeer chosen by Walt Disney himself.  By the end of the first year, she was the most popular Mouseketeer and receiving 6,000 letters a month (though I don't remember ever writing her).

She had several big hits with songs, especially "Tall Paul" and "Pineapple Princess."  I was watching the video of "I'll Never Change Him" on one of the sites, and remembered why I liked her.

Then, there were the Beach Party movies:
Muscle Beach Party
Bikinia Beach
Beach Blanket Bikini
How to Stuff a Wild Bikini

Mickey's Guy, "Buzz Price"

HARRISON "BUZZ" PRICE ((1921-2010)

ENGINEER PICKED OUT DISNEY SITES

Died August 15th at age 89.

Michael Eisner, former Disney CEO said Mr. Price "was as much responsible for the success of the Walt Disney Co, as anybody except Walt Disney himself.

In 1953, Walt Disney asked for advice on where to build his first theme park, Price, an engineer, analyzed population trends, land prices, accessibility and climate (as well as Route 66) and chose a 160-acre orange grove in Anaheim, California.

Mr. Price later remembered, "We hit it right on the nose, dead center."

He also recommended orange groves near Orlando, Florida for a second Disney theme park. We all know what happened there.

Disney later urged Price to open his own firm, which he did in 1958.

This man sure made an impact on the cultural and tourism landscape of the nation. I've been to both parks, but wouldn't go back. Too may kids and people. Plus, too expensive.

From August 20th Chicago Tribune by Valerie J. Nelson

Harrison Alan Price was born May 17, 1921 in Oregon City, Oregon. "Buzz" was a family nickname.
