The 2022 Indy 500

MAY 29, 2022, Sunday

We had two flyovers, one with Jim Cornelison singing "Back Home Again in Indiana" and then, of course "The Star-Spangled Banner."  Jim Cornelison has evidently inherited the honor of singing this song from the late Jim Nabors.  Of course, he is a Chicago Blackhawk favorite as he sings the National Anthem for home games.

My favorite Indy racer is Alexander Rossi and he was all the way back in the 7th row, so, as they say, he had quite a road to hoe.  He ended up finishing fifth, 4.9 seconds behind first place winner Marcus Ericsson.  None of us had ever heard of Marcus Ericsson, but we know him now.

Congrats to Marcus Ericcson.

Stuck around to watch the award and victory lap as well as the kissing of the yard of bricks at the start/finish line and to let more of the people leave.

Went back to the RV, but when we went over to the Legion for cocktails, they had already closed so we were forced to have our drinks at the RV, bbq some meat and talk aout the race.

Paul and I tried to stay up and watch the replay of the race, but only made it half way through before we had to go to sleep.  We think it might be because we're getting old or sitting out in the sun that long.

I will be writing in a lot more detail about the Indy 500 in my RoadDog's RoadLog blog at some point in the future.

The Ukrainian National Anthem

Never more appropriate than right now.

***********************************

Ukraine is not yet dead, nor its glory and freedom,

Luck will still smile on us brother-Ukrainians.

Our enemies will die, as the dew does in the sunshine,

and, we too, brothers will live happily in our land.

We'll not spare either our souls or bodies to get freedom

and we'll prove  that we brothers are of Kozak kin.

WLS Top 40 for Week of July 13, 1970-- Part 3: "Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours"

30.  UNITED WE STAND--  Brotherhood of Man     #13    Those full vocal harmonies.  A song we can really use in these hard times.  If we HAVE TO HAVE a new National Anthem as the Blacks desire, perhaps this would be a good candidate.  British studio group.

29.  WHY CAN'T I TOUCH YOU--  Ronnie Dyson    #8     Great soul song and what a voice.  Full title  "(If You Let Me Make Love To You) Why Can't I Touch You?"

28.  ARE YOU READY--  Pacific Gas & Electric     #14    Biracial blues-rock band.  West Coast.

27.  SIGNED, SEALED, DELIVERED, I'M YOURS--  Stevie Wonder     #3     Is that a great bass line or what?  All over the place.  Steveland Morris.

26.  LAY A LITTLE LOVIN' ON ME--  Robin McNamara        #11     Love the start to the video.    Was this Bubble Gum music?  Who cares.  This is an infectious song.  One of the comments says he was in "Hair" before this song.  Looking at his hair I couldn't disagree.

Name That Tune (from the above songs):  "There's Rumors Of War, Men Dying And Women Crying."  Answer below.  --RoadDog

I'd Celebrate That!!! March 1-3: National Anthem Day March 3

MARCH 1

NATIONAL PEANUT BUTTER LOVERS DAY-- **   What would Homer say?  Peanut butter on anything.  Give a dog some and sit back and enjoy.

NATIONAL PIG DAY--  **  And, they're so good... to eat.

SHARE A SMILE DAY-- **   Never hurts.

REFIRED NOT RETIRED DAY-- **   I guess this is about being retired.  I wish I had more time to enjoy it.  Time goes by so fast now.

MARCH 2

DRESS IN BLUE DAY--  **  To raise money for cancer.  Problem for me is that blue was the color of Union uniforms during the war.

EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION DAY--  **  Nothing gets done without them.

NATIONAL BANANA CREAM PIE DAY--  **  I love most any kind of pie.

NATIONAL DOODLE DAY--  **  I've been known to do this.

OLD STUFF DAY--  **  Walk into my house and you know why I support this one.  Some say I support it too much.

NATIONAL READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY--  **  Also known as Dr. Seuss Day.  Reading is good.

MARCH 3

33 FLAVORS DAY--  **  As in ICE CREAM!!!!    Anniversary of the opening of the first Baskin-Robbins.

NATIONAL ANTHEM DAY--  **  When you-know-what officially became the National Anthem on March 3, 1931.  Reckon I'll be putting the flags out regardless of the major cold here on Sunday.

NATIONAL DAY OF UNPLUGGING--  **  Get unplugged from those 'putes and "idge" phones.

Ice Cream.  We All Scream for Ice Cream!!  --RoadDog

Tom Grosvenor Marine Corps Breakfast-- Part 2 All Stood

Tables were set up for World War II veterans and we had six in attendance as well as eight for the Korean War and quite a few Vietnam veterans.

We had the presentation of colors, the U.S. and Marine Corps flags, by the Lake County Marine Corps League and then the National Anthem.  Unlike so many of the NFL players, everybody stood except one man sitting at the Vietnam veterans table.  But he sure had an excuse.  He was in a wheelchair and missing a leg.

We then had the message of General Lejeune read and listened to the Commandant's message.

Who Are the Real Heroes? The NFL or Our Veterans

Today, when all those NFL players take a knee and indicate to our veterans what they think of them, let's think of the real heroes.

Yesterday I attended the 34th annual Tom Grosvenor Memorial Marine Corps Breakfast for Toys for Tots at the Fox Lake, Illinois, American Legion.  This coming Friday, November 10 is the 242nd birthday of our Corps.

Everyone stood during the presentation of the colors and National Anthem except one man.

He was at the Vietnam War veterans table...and he was in a wheel chair,  He was missing a leg.

Certainly a reason not to stand, but I know he would have if he could have.

Something to think about today when you see that offensive show of disrespect out on the sidelines before the game.

I wonder who paid the price so those football players could make their millions of dollars?

We Know.  --RoadDog
