Back to the Seventies on the Radio: 1972 and 1974 and a Beach Shot

Bill St. James is back to 1972 on his Time Warp Show on Chicago's WDRV, 97.1 FM.  Right now, he is playing Alice Cooper's "School's Out" which inspired the name of our last boat, "School's Out..." which then had "Forever" after we retired.

It goes to 10 am, CST and streams.

Then, at 9 am, WXRT is doing 1974 on their Saturday Morning Flashback.  It goes to noon CST and streams as well.

This has been an exceedingly crummy winter so far this new year with lots of snow with no chance of melting as we've only had a few days in the 30s since Jan 1 and since last Friday, Feb.5, no temps higher than the mid teens.  That's why giving WVCO, the Surf's Beach Music Countdown today from 9 to 11 am, EST will help get me in the proper beach mode.

Getting That Old Boating Fever

What with all the warm weather, well 50s, everyone around here is getting a real big dose of Spring Fever, and in our case, that means looking forward to getting our boat, "School's Out...Forever" out of that barn in Hebron and in the water.

Talked with "Mineola Pete" last night at Antonio's and he says that won't be too soon as there is still a lot of ice on Fox Lake.  He runs the Mineola Marine and still owns the Mineola Hotel, which has been in his family since 1943.

Yesterday, taking advantage of the warmer weather, I charged and jumped the battery of the '85 Firebird and got it started.  I took a ride around the subdivision.  A sure sign of spring.  I also started the John Deere lawn tractor and ran the mower.

Now, I need to get some gas before they raise the prices.

Great Day: Boat's In the Water!!!-- Part 1: Our Excuses For the Delay

Let it be written down, that after two months of mostly sitting in the driveway (the neighbors must have thought we had a new lawn ornament), we finally got the boat in the water yesterday.

Our excuse(s) for the tardiness (we got the boat out of the barn in Hebron, Illinois, May 11th) were the two floods, mighty cool (even COLD) weather, rain and other things.

Took the boat to the American Legion in Fox Lake and launched it. Then took the trailer over to Kora's and then I drove over to Rick's place on the channel off Mineola Bay in Fox Lake.

I wasn't happy to find the people across the channel had a big pontoon boat tied up by their seawall, right across from where we had to dock.

I'll stop writing to avoid a way-too-long paragraph thanks to Blogspot.
