Movie Scratches--  Movies I saw in theaters in 2019.

I always try for 52 movies a year; one a week.

This year I didn't make that number.

36.  IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE--  12-18--  Fox Lake, $5--  My third favorite Christmas movie on the big screen.  Thanks Classic Cinemas.

37.  FROZEN II--  12-19--  Fox Lake, $6--  One of those great animated movies these days but sure could have used a lot less Olav the snow man and all that singing.  The girls finding out some less than wonderful things their ancestors had done.

38.  JUMANJI: THE NEXT LEVEL--  12-19--  Extremely hard to keep up with who was who, but lots of funny situations.

Movie Scratches--  A dog's eye-view of movies I saw at the theater in 2019.

I shoot for 52 movies a year at the theater and didn't come anywhere near it this year.

33.  MIDWAY--  12-3--  Fox Lake, $5--  Like I said, this is a movie that has to be seen twice on the big screen with all that surround sound.  This was also a commercial for Zippo lighters.   (You had that familiar click.)  Lots of Japanese officers with those gloves looking frantically upwards with binoculars with American planes diving at them as well as Japanese anti-aircraft guns firing frantically up at those planes.

I don't know how any American planes made it through all that A-A fire.

34.  FORD v FERRARI--  12-3--  Fox Lake, Free--  Overcoming the stacked odds and Bee bee.  Who says Americans can't?  One brave driver.

35.  KNIVES OUT--  12-12--  Was it suicide or was it murder?  A great Who-Dun-It.  What did the real old lady know?

Movie Scratches--  Movies I Saw at the Theater in 2019.

29.  MIDWAY--  11-18--  Fox Lake, $6--  Four battles for the price of one.  Pearl Harbor, Marshall Islands, Doolittle's Raid and Midway.  I'll have to see it again on the big screen.  Wow!!

30.  THE GOOD LIAR--  11-19--  Fox Lake, $5--  So, who's doing who? All this and a World War II background story.  Not what you think.  I think it should be an Academy Award nominee.

31.  DOCTOR SLEEP--  11-19--  Fox  Lake, $5--  "The Shining Pt. 2"  The story continues.  "Wakey, Wakey."   Like father, like son.

32.  LAST CHRISTMAS--  11-21--  Fox Lake, $6--  A dysfunctional gal from a dysfunctional family finds her way.  I was caught completely by surprise by the ending.  A modern day "It's a Wonderful Life" and "Groundhog Day."  Too good for Hallmark?

Love That Popcorn Seasoning At Classic Cinemas.  Almost makes the $7.50 Large Popcorns Worth It.  --RoadDog

DID YOU KNOW:   Cranberries are sorted for ripeness by bouncing them;  a fully ripened cranberry can be  dribbled like a basket ball.

25.  ZOMBIELAND:  DOUBLE TAP--   10-29--  Fox Lake, $5--  I did a whole lot of out-loud laughing, something I rarely do.  It was that funny.  Watch out for the Homer Zombies.  Make sure you sit through the closing credits.

26.  MALEFICENT:  MISTRESS OF EVIL--  10-29--  Fox Lake, $5--  Should be Maleficent the Mistress of Good.  The Queen as the bad one.  As was the queen's evil hench woman.

27.  THE ADDAMS FAMILY--  I guess if you live in New Jersey, you might have a problem with this movie.  Not as good as "Hotel Transylvania, but, "The Thing" stole the show.

28.  JOKER--  11-5--  Fox Lake, $5--  As the Joker falls further into mental illness.  I thought it would be hard to beat Heath Ledger as the Joker, but Joaquin Phoenix  takes it.

21.  GOOD BOYS--  8-27--  Fox Lake, $5--  The Beanbay Boys have quite the day of it and all for a kiss.  While the frat boys take a beating.

22.  ANGEL HAS FALLEN--  9-3--  Fox Lake, $5--  The third "Fallen."  Getting out of real tight spots a specialty.  Nick Nolte ridden hard and put away wet.

23.  FAST & FURIOUS PRESENTS:  HOBBS & SHAW--  9-3--  Fox Lake, $5--Forced to work together and they REALLY don't like each other.Great put-downs and some Haka too.

24.  IT CHAPTER TWO--  9-10--  Woodstock, $5--  Gettin' the hell out of Derry if you know what's good for you and in more ways than one.  Pennywise vs. Freddie Kreuger.  Now, that would be interesting.

18.  THE CURSE OF LA LIORNA--  5-2--  Fox Lake, $6--  One very intent demon out to get your kids.  Keep the rosewood out.

19.  AVENGERS:  END GAME--  5-16--  Fox Lake, $6--    Thanos gets his.  Who Da Boss now?  Skylord or Thor?

20.  THE LION KING--  8-27--  Fox Lake, $5--  That mean old Scar and his not so cute hyenas.

9.  HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON:  THE HIDDEN WORLD--  3-6--  $5, Fox Lake--  Toothless gets a girlfriend then splits to a safer place.  Is this really the last movie?  I hope not.

10.  ALITA:  BATTLE ANGEL--    3-6--  Fox Lake, $5--  Don't mess with Alita.  Getting to know your past.  Motorball is a mighty tough sport.

11.  CAPTIVE STATE--  3-15--  $6, Fox Lake--  Beware the roaches  Those aliens are not as nice as they seem to be.  Sometimes you have to lose to win.

12.  CAPTAIN MARVEL--  3-15--  $6, Fox Lake--   Don't you hate it when you find you are fighting for the wrong side.  Whatever you do, don't pet the cat.

5.  THE UPSIDE--  2-5--  Fox Lake, $5--  Another "Green Book" but different circumstances.  Two totally different guys become friends through employment.

6.  COLD PURSUIT--  2-8--  Fox Lake, $6--  When, oh when, will the bad guys learn to leave Liam Neeson's family alone.  Always a bad move on their part.  You couldn't help but like some of the bad guys, though.  What a death tally.

7.  A DOG'S WAY HOME--  2-8--  What that pesky squirrel started.  It was a long-hard way home  for this pooch.  Should have gone home the first time.

8.  THE FAVOURITE--  2-12--  Round Lake Beach, $7--  A real period piece.  "Sometimes it's good to be queen."  Really frilly men and really deep court intrigue.

Movie Scratches--  A Dog's-Eye view of today's movies  (Seen at the theater).  After title, date seen, where, cost.

1.  HOLMES & WATSON--  1-8--  Fox Lake, $5--  "No s**t Sherlock."  How Holmes got his hat.  This film owes a big thanks to Monty Python.

2.  ON THE BASIS OF SEX--  1-24--  Fox Lake, $6--  The life and times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.  Should have gotten Academy nominations.  Quite a woman.  Before this I just thought of her as the strange-looking Supreme Court Justice.

3.  GREEN BOOK--  1-27--  Fox Lake, $6--  One of the best movies I've ever seen.  Sure glad it's not that way so much anymore.  A movie on many levels.  I'd be surprised if this one doesn't get Best Picture.

4.  VICE--  1-29--  Fox Lake, free--  The life and times of Dick Cheney  Going for ultimate power by a very scary guy.
