WLS Top 40 for Week of April 13, 1970: "Come Running"
(D) means Debut. The number after the artist refers to how high it got on the Billboard Hot 100 songs.
40. UP AROUND THE BEND-- Creedence Clearwater Revival-- #4 (D) Just try not to speed when this come on the car radio. Group formed in California high school.own one by him, but a good road cruisin' song also.
39. DON'T STOP NOW-- Eddie Holman-- #48 (D) Never heard it before. Reminds me of his "Hey There Lonely Girl." Follow up to "Hey There Lonely Girl." Born in Norfolk, Virginia.
38. COME RUNNING-- Van Morrison #39 (D) Not one of his better-known ones. Good road-cruisin' sons as well. Follow up to "Brown Eyed Girl."
37. THE RAPPER-- Jaggerz #2 From album "We Went to Different Schools Together. Not our current rappers.Donnie "Ah Leah" was a member.
36. AIRPORT THEME-- Vincent Bell #31 Don't remember it. Interesting sound, though. Studio artist born in Brooklyn in 1935.

Heading for North Carolina 2010-- Part 3
AUGUST 29th-- Sunday-- Part 1
This was my day to really drive US-150. I spent quite a bit of time in Vincennes, Indiana. I knew about its Revolutionary War history where George Rodgers Clark captured the British fort and about this being where Abraham Lincoln's family crossed over the Wabash River into Illinois.
But, I didn't know the town was the capital of Indiana Territory and home to William Henry Harrison before he became president and where he had a lot of dealings with Indians.
US-150 is aligned with US-50 until Shoals where the two split. The drive from Loogootee (how's that for a name) to Paoli goes through Hoosier National Forest and is really great drive, right up there with Ind-46 from Columbus to Bloomington.
Lots of curves, hills, tree tunnels, rock sides and just great driving. I highly recommend it. Paoli has a beautiful downtown square (actually more of a circle and a courthouse.
Continued on to Louisville, Kentucky.

Heading for North Carolina 2010-- Part 2
Just got back on the internet at Mom's house in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
AUGUST 28th-- SATURDAY
I didn't get away from home until a little after noon, even with Liz not going with me. My excuse was yardwork and even had to cut the grass.
Took the usual Il-47 bypass around the Chicago hassle. Took it to close to its southern terminus by I-74 then to Danville. I didn't know it, but US-150 also goes to Danville so got on it. It is aligned with Il-1 (Illinois Highway 1) down to just west of Terre Haute where it crosses over into Indiana.
In Indiana, it joins with US-40 and the National Road. US-150 then goes south on US-41 and is called the Dixie Bee Highway. This is also part of the old Dixie Highway.
Took it to Vincennes where I spent the night and played NTN at my 901st site, the BW3 (Buffalo Wild Wings).

Out for a Local Cruise-- Old and New Places Part 1
My good buddy Frank came by yesterday and we, including Liz, took a trip to Cheesehead Land.
First we saw gas was $3.35 at the Rock Corner Marathon station. OUCH!!!
Continued northward on Wilmot Road into Wisconsin and by the original home of Gander Mountain and past Wilmot Ski Resort, which really has to be celebrating with all this new snow.
First stop was at Mars Trading Post Inn in Wilmot. Part of the building dates back to the 1840s and at one time it was actually a trading post for the Indians in the area. It is right across the street from the Fox River which Marquette and Joliet traversed way back when.
Thursdays they have $1 quarter pound burgers, 50 cents more with cheese. Also $1 domestic bottles. Needless to say, the place is quite crowded Thursdays.
Then on to Donovan's Reef in Twin Lakes. This bar and motel place dates back to the 1920s and is a real taste of Florida in Cheesehead Land. It got its name from the movie of the same name starring John Wayne and Lee Marvin. They have a $3.50 Italian beef and fries special on Thursdays as well as a Happy Hour M-F. Domestic pints are $1.50 and bottles $2 from 4 to 7.
This place also has NTN, National Trivia Network, where you play other people in the bar and people across the whole US and Canada. Usually, there are about 3,000 places and 10,000 people playing at any given time. We had two top twenties.
Talked with a guy who had been a Round Lake student when we were teaching, although neither Liz or myself had ever had him in class.
One big problem with places just over the Illinois border is that the smokers go there these days since smoking has been banned in Illinois bars. The smoke can get quite intense.
