DOG FARTING AWARENESS DAY--  Yep, they do.  Just don't blame them when you fart.

NATIONAL DOG FIGHTING AWARENESS DAY--  **  This is terrible.  And, what it has done to the reputation of pit-bulls is absolutely horrible.


APRIL 9

APPOMATTOX DAY--    Lee Surrenders.  Well, being of Southern persuasion I can't say that I celebrate this day.  But I am glad that the war was finally over.

NATIONAL FORMER POW DAY--  **  What they had to endure for us is unimaginable.


APRIL 10

AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS DAY--  **  It is amazing how cruel some people are to animals.

SALVATION ARMY FOUNDERS' DAY--  **  One of the great relief organizations anywhere.


APRIL 11

NATIONAL PET DAY--  **  Those pets have us trained so well.

INTERNATIONAL LOUIE LOUIE DAY--  **  The song's writer, Richard Berry was born on this day in 1935.

SUBMARINE DAY--  **  When the U.S. bought its first submarine, the Holland, in 1900.

APRIL 1

APRIL FOOLS' DAY--  **  Not me, but you.  I'll never forget the time at Donovan's Reef in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, when Jeff moved his parents' furniture outside onto the beach.  Real funny.  But they didn't think so.

NATIONAL SOURDOUGH BREAD DAY--  **  One of my favorite breads.

NATIONAL PENNIES DAY--  **  I still bend down to pick one up.


APRIL 2

NATIONAL FERRET DAY--  **  Just don't let the Budweiser lizard see you petting the ferret.

NATIONAL PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY DAY--  **  Still one of life's little joys, especially with an extra glob of jelly.


APRIL 3

AMERICAN CIRCUS DAY--  **  Sad to see us losing them.

NATIONAL WALKING DAY--  **  Like they told me at work.  "Go take a hike."


APRIL 4

INTERNATIONAL CARROT DAY--  **  My personal favorite carrot is the healthy and highly edible carrot cake.

NATIONAL BURRITO DAY--  **  A favorite.  (Observed the first Thursday in April)

404 DAY--  Computer speak for Not Found.   That's OK, I'm lost around 'puters anyway.

CHILDREN'S PICTURE BOOK DAY-- **  So important for early reading.  Every child should have picture books.

EAT AN ESKIMO PIE DAY--  **  Avoid brain freeze, though.


MARCH 29

NATIONAL VIETNAM WAR VETERANS DAY--  **  The last American troops came home March 29, 1973.  I'll be putting up my flags on Saturday.

NATIONAL MOM AND POP BUSINESS OWNERS DAY--  **  The backbone of America.


MARCH 30

PENCIL DAY--  **  Our first real writing instrument.

NATIONAL TAKE A WALK IN A PARK DAY--  **  It is so relaxing.  When I see parks, I don't get as mad with my taxes.

NATIONAL TATER DAY--  **  Any kind of potato is alright with me, especially loaded baked potatoes, French fries and, of course, tater tots.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF REMEMBRANCE OF THE VICTIMS OF SLAVERY AND THE TRANSATLANTIC  SLAVE TRADE--  **  Lest we forget the inhumanity of man to other men.

INTERNATIONAL WAFFLE DAY--  **  Especially ones with stuff in them like blueberries or chocolate and different flavor syrups like at IHOP.

PECAN DAY--  **  Any kind of nut is alright with me.  Do you say Pea-can like me or puh-cahn?

NATIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR DAY--  **  The highest ward of bravery.


MARCH 26

NATIONAL SPINACH DAY--  **  With lots of butter or in a pizza.

NATIONAL NOUGAT DAY--**    Nougat good!!!


MARCH 27

MANATEE APPRECIATION DAY--  **  Poor guys getting wiped out by humans.  They just want to do their thing and be left alone.

NATIONAL JOE DAY--  **  In honor of all guys named Joe.  Just a day for the Average Joe.

NATIONAL QUIRKY COUNTRY MUSIC SONG TITLES DAY--**  And, there has been some really good ones.

SUBMARINE DAY--  **   March 17, 1898,  John Holland demonstrated his submarine for the Navy Department.

EARMUFF DAY--  **  Well, hopefully we won't be needing them for awhile.

K-9 VETERANS DAY--  **  Definitely, they deserve to be acknowledged.

NATIONAL OPEN AN UMBRELLA INDOORS DAY--  Isn't that bad luck?  I don't think so.

PI DAY--  I've got a feeling these don't come with ala mode.  Something about 314?

NATIONAL BAKED SCALLOPS DAY--  **  I love scallops.

ORGANIZE YOUR HOME OFFICE DAY--  **My work space here could be way less cluttered.   But who has time?

NATIONAL PLANT A FLOWER DAY--  **  I love flowers.  Definitely too early up here in Northern Illinois.

BANG-CLANG DAY--  **  The anniversary of the battle between the USS Monitor and CSS Virginia, the first battle between ironclads.  And, with me being such a big Civil War buff, you know I'd celebrate this one.

BARBIE DAY--  **  On this date, Barbie made her debut in 1959.  Though I never had one.

NATIONAL CRABMEAT DAY--  **  I loves my crab meat.  With cocktail sauce, of course.

NATIONAL MEATBALL DAY--  **  The bigger and juicier, the better.

GET OVER IT DAY--  **  Half way between Valentine's Day and April Fools' Day.  A good day to put past indignities behind you and move ahead.


MARCH 10

GENEALOGY DAY  (celebrated the first Saturday of March) --  **  Always good to know where you come from.

INTERNATIONAL BAGPIPE DAY--  **  I love the sound of bagpipes.  And, look forward to hearing some  in the near future for you-know-what day.

INTERNATIONAL FANNY PACK DAY--  Never had one, never wore one.  Too embarrassing.

SALVATION ARMY DAY--  **  One of the great organizations of the world.

LANDLINE TELEPHONE DAY--  **  We still have one.  I haven't yet figured out how to use it completely.  What chance do I have with one of those "Idge" phones?

NATIONAL BE NASTY DAY--  Be  as rotten as you wanna be.  Never the right thing to do.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY--  **  For women's rights.  You've come a long way, baby!!  Still a ways to go, though.

NATIONAL TARTAR SAUCE DAY--  (Observed 44 days before Easter)  **  I almost can't eat fish without it.  Mighty tasty stuff..  Since we'll be eating a lot of fish for awhile.

DENTISTS DAY-- **  Some wouldn't celebrate this, but we have a really great dentist, Dr. Bennett,  So here's to you, Doc!!

NATIONAL FROZEN FOOD DAY--  **  Were it not for this or canned food or doggie bag food, Liz and I would never eat.

NATIONAL WHITE CHOCOLATE CHEESECAKE DAY--  **  Hard to imagine ANY KIND of cheesecake not being good.  Right, Golden Girls.

NATIONAL OREO COOKIE DAY--  **  Do you unscrew them to get max icing on one side  (then dip the other side in milk?)?


MARCH 7

NATIONAL CEREAL DAY--  **  I especially like Fruit Loops and raisin bran.

NAMETAG DAY--  **  Especially hard plastic ones.  Not those paper ones where you write your name and pull it off the adhesive and put it on yourself (and it comes off somewhere a short time later)>  Probably time to go through your junk drawers and throw some of them out unless, otherwise, you can't remember your name.

NATIONAL BE HEARD DAY--  **  For small businesses.  Since the big ones get all the advertising.

NATIONAL CROWN ROAST OF PORK DAY--  **  Though I've never had one, it sure looks good.

TOP TEN TRIVIA:  The lowest temperature in the world was minus 128.6 F (without a wind chill) at Vostok Station, Antarctica, on July 21, 1983.  And, we were complaining about 2 degrees here in northern Illinois yesterday.  Thanks a lot Canada.

CINCO DE MARCHO--  **  Marks the beginning of the season to train your liver for St. Patrick's Day, which will soon be here.  I didn't know of this one before this.  But, I have already been training for today, March 5, 2019, which is Mardi Gras.

MARDI GRAS--**  This year coming mighty late.

FUN FACTS ABOUT NAMES DAY--**    Look up interesting things about your name and other names.  You don't want to be in the Stink Hole Corner in Cribbage.

NATIONAL CHEESE DOODLE DAY--  **  Who doesn't like a cheese doodle now and then?

REEL FILM DAY--  This is for those old reel films you had to thread through a projector.  I never quite mastered the art so  my kids rarely saw a film in class.

NATIONAL POTTY DANCE DAY--  **   That little dance kids do when they need to go to  the bathroom.  I've done a variation of it outside the local tavern bathroom at times.  Come on buddy.  HURRY UP!!!

NATIONAL PIG DAY--  **  And, they're so good... to eat.

SHARE A SMILE DAY-- **   Never hurts.

REFIRED NOT RETIRED DAY-- **   I guess this is about being retired.  I wish I had more time to enjoy it.  Time goes by so fast now.

DRESS IN BLUE DAY--  **  To raise money for cancer.  Problem for me is that blue was the color of Union uniforms during the war.

EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION DAY--  **  Nothing gets done without them.

NATIONAL BANANA CREAM PIE DAY--  **  I love most any kind of pie.

NATIONAL DOODLE DAY--  **  I've been known to do this.

OLD STUFF DAY--  **  Walk into my house and you know why I support this one.  Some say I support it too much.

NATIONAL READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY--  **  Also known as Dr. Seuss Day.  Reading is good.


MARCH 3

33 FLAVORS DAY--  **  As in ICE CREAM!!!!    Anniversary of the opening of the first Baskin-Robbins.

NATIONAL ANTHEM DAY--  **  When you-know-what officially became the National Anthem on March 3, 1931.  Reckon I'll be putting the flags out regardless of the major cold here on Sunday.

NATIONAL DAY OF UNPLUGGING--  **  Get unplugged from those 'putes and "idge" phones.

FEBRUARY 23

CURLING IS COOL DAY--  A strange sport, but interesting.  Might be an ice problem with me if that is what they play on.

NATIONAL BANANA BREAD DAY--**  Thinking about a piece of one of those right out of the oven right now.

NATIONAL TOAST DAY (UK)--**  Few things better than a warm piece of toast with jelly and dripping butter and washing it down with tomato juice.

PLAY TENNIS DAY--  No big fan.


FEBRUARY 24

WORLD BARTENDER DAY--  **  I really like my bartenders Barb, Heather, Wendy, Rocky, Don, Karen, Trudy and Kelly.   Extra tips today, folks.
