Guess I'm WAY Out of the Loop in Music These Days: About That Current and Country Music

Well, we have that giant music festival going on in Chicago this weekend called Lollapalooza and a couple weeks ago we had a big country festival near here in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin called Country Thunder.

I went to Country Thunder once quite a while ago, back in my much younger days.  But, as I get older, huge crowds just isn't something I want to experience.  It did used to bother me, but now its sure does.

Anyway, I go a schedule for Country Thunder (and I still am a big country music fan and often listen to WBRF, 98.1 FM out of Galax, Virginia over the internet.  They play what they call Classic Country.  The older stuff.)

Out of four headliners July 15-18, I only recognized two:  Eric Church and Blake Shelton.  Out of the other 18 performers, I only recognize three:  Clay Walker, Tanya Tucker and Neal McCoy.

Out of 170+ bands, this was real sad, I only recognized seven: Miley Cyrus, Black Pumas, Limp Bizkit, Journey, Mt. Joy, Post Malone and Foo Fighters.

Like I said, Guess I'm Out of the Loop Now.  --RoadHopeless?

JSS: Lollapalooza-- No Movies This Week-- No Yard Work Either

JSS--  Just Some Stuff.

1.  LOLLAPALOOZA--  Wednesday, the Chicago Tribune printed the three day line up of performances as the upcoming Lollapalooza shows which will run on Chicago's Grant Park from July 31-August 2nd this year.  This is its 11th year.  And it is a big one.  I have never been and don't plan to go this year.  One reason is the $110 daily tickets.

But a big reason is that I don't know hardly any of the bands.  This year, I only recognize six of the 130 artists: Paul McCartney, St. Paul & the Broken Bones (Beach Music), Alabama Shakes, Metallica, Sam Smith and Florence and the Machine.

Have I gotten that far out of the loop?

2.  NO MOVIES THIS WEEK--  Evidently the schools around here are out for Spring Break.  That means parents use theaters for babysitting.  Get the varmints out of the house and off their smart phones.

3.  NO YARD WORK EITHER--  Well, we had about five inches of snow on Monday and it has been cold and blustery since then.

Staying Inside.  --RoadDog

"Ain't" Goin' to Lollapalooza

Big news in Chicago this weekend is the annual Lollapalooza summer festival that started last night.  Of course, it being in Chicago means I won't be attending because of my price boycott, especially PARKING!!

Plus, I don't really know new music anymore.  At 61, I've been passed by and since I no longer deejay, I don't need to know.

However, yesterday, the Chicago Tribune printed an hour-by-hour breakdown of who is playing on what stage.  At first glance, I just recognized the name sof three groups and two of those could be classified as oldies, especially Black Sabbath.  The other two were Red Hot Chili Peppers and Black Keys.  I did see why Lin Braemer said you'd have to chose between the Black Keys and Black Sabbath as both closed their stages last night.

Another look this morning and I recognized the names of Alabama Shakes, Franz Ferdinand, Florence + the Machine and Jack White.

However, there would be some groups I'd check out just on the basis of their name.  Here they are:

FRIDAY

O Rappa, First Aid Kit, Blind Pilot, Band of Skulls, Dry the River, The White Panda, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (How could you not check them out with a  name like this?), Yellow Ostrich, Tame Impala, The Growlers, Dr. Dog.

SATURDAY

The Tallest Man on Earth, Kopecky Family Band, Walk Off the Earth, Star Slinger, Skream & Benga, B.o.B, Bear In Heaven, Neon Indian,

SUNDAY

Oberhofer, WhiteRabbits, The Devil Makes Three, Hey Rosetta!, Dum Dum Girls, The Gaslight Anthem, Of Monsters & Men, Childish Gambino, Imaginary Cities, The Sheepdogs, The Jezabels, Big Gigantic, Zeds Dead, The Walkman, Bombay Bicycle Club, Trampled By Turtles (How could you not?)

Won't Be There.  --RoadDog
