Setting Up the New Computer Went Better Than I Could Have Hoped For

As I sit here typing away with my two little fingers on the new personal computer in front of me, I must admit that yesterday went much better than I believed it would.

Now, however, I just need to learn how to get sound on it and how to turn it off.

But today, all of the eight blogs have been done on the new one.

Wish Me Luck As I Attempt to Set Up the New Computer Today

Last Friday, I bought a new personal computer at Wal-Mart, an HP all-in-one Windows 10 for $399 and today I am going to attempt to install it.

I do not expect to succeed, given my continuing record dealing with all this new technology/  I am, as they say, technologically challenged.  Our current pcs are XPs and no longer supported by Windows as I see every time I turn mine on.

I would gave gotten a new pc earlier, but again, I have to learn how to set it  up and use it, something I am not good at in any fashion.

I still use a 2003 flip phone and still hardly know how  to use it.

Nothing But Computer Problems the Last Two Weeks

In case you're wondering how come there have been so few posts the last several weeks, it is because of computer problems.

Yesterday I bought a new computer (ours are XPs)  and still have to set it up which should be quite a problem as I am very technologically challenged.

But, I will do the best I can.

FRAME 1: Dagwood and his son are talking.

Dagwood: "How are things going with Kelly?

Son: "We're having communication difficulties! She keeps telling me to call her or post something sweet on Twitter or Facebook! (Well, I have called someone before.)


FRAME 2: Still talking.

Son: But, I'd much rather just text! Did you ever have those kinds of communication problems, Dad?"

Dagwood is looking puzzled.


FRAME 3:

Dagwood is walking past the kitchen with Daisy the dog and looking at the reader. Blondie is putting a roast into the oven.

Dagwood: "I don't need electronic gadgets to have communication problems!"

Blondie overhears him and says, "What did you say dear?"

Not Technologically Challenged...But

Every time I walk into a Best Buy or Circuit City, I am overwhelmed. I probably couldn't operate but about 25% of the stuff in those places. There are even items that I don't even know what they do.

I have done been passed by in this technological revolution we now have where today's "new" stuff is outdated within months. I just can't keep up. Plus, I hate learning new stuff when I am so comfortable with the old stuff.

GARFIELD-- April 29th

Jon: "My new cell phone has voice mail, a calendar, an alarm clock, a camera, a tip calculator. a GPS system and it plays MP3 music files."

Next frame. Jon: "It does everything but ring."

Next frame. Garfield: "That would require friends."

Well, I do get an occasional call, but that's all I've ever done on the cell phone. Take a picture?

I'm Not Technologically Challenged, Not Much Anyway

A recent Garfield had Jon with his new cell phone.

Cell phone is ringing and Jon answers it.

"Hello."

"Darn!"

"I took another picture of my ear."

Garfield: "New cell phone."


Hey, I wouldn't even know how to take a picture unless it was by accident.

Said the Guy Who Just Got His First Cell Phone about 14 months ago. I know of first graders who have had them longer. --RoadDog

The Comics and Me-- Part 2-- Technologically Backwards

Another favorite comic strip is "Broom Hilda."

Again, this last Sunday's strip featured Gaylord (G) and Broom Hilda (BH) talking.

First-- G putting a VHS tape in VCR-- BH- "Good gravy! You still watch VHS?
Second-- BH- "You're straight out of the dark ages, Gaylord."
Third-- BH-- Stop parading your ignorance by using such archaic technology."
Fourth-- BH-- Join the 21st century. Watch DVDs like us technologically hip folks do." as she puts something into the VCR.
Fifth-- BH clicking the remote and looking confused.-- "I don't get it. I put it in right but it's not playing."
Sixth-- Nerwin the Troll-- running into the room-- "You left your DVD on the kitchen table. You're watching a pancake." BH looks deflated.

This hit home. I have some DVDs and even a couple DVD players and a recorder, but I am still using VHS tapes in the old VCRs.

I also use the old cassette tapes more than anything else, even though I have lots of CDs. Of course, it is getting increasingly hard to find cassette tapes. I see that CDs are even becoming endangered.

Is it really necessary for us to keep all this technology changing this fast. Hell, you just learn how to operate something and a month later, it's obsolete and you have to learn how to operate something else!!!!

Broom Hilda and the State of the Cell Phone Nation

In today's comic strip, Broom Hilda is walking down the street with a cell phone glued to her ear. Another five people also are walking and talking on their cell phones. They are walking by an open phone booth (not one of the old completely glass enclosed ones like the Blues Brothers used). It had a sign attached to it which read, "Listed with the National Historic Register."

Funny, but all too true. You just don't see phone booths which at one time were all over the place. Cell phones have put them out of business.

I have to admit, I am NOT a real big cell phone person. I don't much care for them. They have their uses and definitely come in handy, especially if you get separated at a function, or need to meet up with someone. HOWEVER, some folks I know have one growing out of their ear and I don't think many things look as ridiculous as a person with one of those blue tooth things.

It does seem that some people get full of self-importance when using them. Then, just about every kid you see has one these days. I know the parental excuse, "I want to always know where my kid is." But, I grew up without one as did everyone my age, and SOMEHOW, we still survived.

I held out against getting one until this past January. I still didn't really want one, but was more or less pressured into it. I still haven't mastered much on it, but am slowly learning.

That is also my big problem with all the new technology these days. I hate learning new stuff. An even bigger problem is that once you learn it, something new comes out and then you have to go back and learn it all over again. Things are just changing too fast, but that could just be old age talking.

Got My Headlines Back

Went to the Help Section here and saw a note that some people were unable to get their headlines to work. I must, then, be special as a "some people".

It said to click onto the middle of the headline field until they can straighten it up. This immediately worked. Thanks blogspot.

I am NOT a big techno guy, and just the smallest thing can really throw me off.

Before seeing the notice, I did find a way to put a new header on the site. Sometimes you just back into things.
