FRIDAY, APRIL 1

Woke up this morning to find about an inch of SNOW on the ground (but not on the driveway, sidewalk or street).  It was all gone by noon, but, come on snow.  Is this nature's idea of an April Fool's joke?

In keeping with the tomfoolery, Bob Stroud dedicated his Ten at Ten on WDRV, 97.1 FM, Chicago "The Drive" to "Fool Around."  Ten songs foolin' around.

"Fool On the Hill"

I'd Celebrate That!!! April 1-4: Fool Me All of the Time

APRIL 1

APRIL FOOLS' DAY--  **  Not me, but you.  I'll never forget the time at Donovan's Reef in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, when Jeff moved his parents' furniture outside onto the beach.  Real funny.  But they didn't think so.

NATIONAL SOURDOUGH BREAD DAY--  **  One of my favorite breads.

NATIONAL PENNIES DAY--  **  I still bend down to pick one up.

APRIL 2

NATIONAL FERRET DAY--  **  Just don't let the Budweiser lizard see you petting the ferret.

NATIONAL PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY DAY--  **  Still one of life's little joys, especially with an extra glob of jelly.

APRIL 3

AMERICAN CIRCUS DAY--  **  Sad to see us losing them.

NATIONAL WALKING DAY--  **  Like they told me at work.  "Go take a hike."

APRIL 4

INTERNATIONAL CARROT DAY--  **  My personal favorite carrot is the healthy and highly edible carrot cake.

NATIONAL BURRITO DAY--  **  A favorite.  (Observed the first Thursday in April)

404 DAY--  Computer speak for Not Found.   That's OK, I'm lost around 'puters anyway.

Carrot Cake.   MMMMMMMMmmmmm.  Good.  --RoadDog

Beware This Coming Monday: No More GeoJef

Every year, this day creeps up on me and every year, I generally fall for something.

Back in the late 80s, on April 1st, WXRT in Chicago reported that scientists had found that the new CDs everyone was buying had a short shelf life and would start disintegrating after so many years.  I had no idea it was April 1st and started wondering why I was now buying these.  (Oh yes, they were not making LPs anymore.)

One great April Fool's trick took place at Donovan's Reef in Twin Lakes.  The owners and son Jeff had agreed to take off fooling each other that year.  That day, the local paper had three less-than -flattering pictures of Jeff.

Jeff then went to his parents' house on the lake and with the help of another patron, moved everything out of the house and set it up on the beach.

Until this year, we have had our annual salute to local NTN-player Geojef, with everyone playing his name, only Geoboo, Geofoo, Geowus and so forth.  But now, NTN doesn't let you do that anymore.

No Geowoo This First.  --RoadDog

Spring Has Sprung!!

How about returning home to find all my daffodils and tulips in full bloom as well as crabapple trees and weeping cherry. I even have to cut the grass which is a deep green and on the rise.

Oh, yes, and gas prices dropped to under $2 and grocery prices returned to where they were five years ago.

And my property taxes went down and I am getting money back from Obama on my taxes.

Listening to Myrtle Beach's Surf radio station right now, and Uncle Billy is back on the morning show.

Wait a Minute. What's the DATE? --RoadDog
