If July seems to be giving us an inordinate number of weekends, it is.
This coming weekend will be the fifth of the month! That's a lot of good times.
This is a rare month with five Fridays (1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th), five Saturdays (2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th) and Sundays (3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th and 31st).
That's what we need, more months with five weekends.
Wait a minute, I'm retired. Every day is a weekend day.

A Playoff Sort of Weekend
JANUARY 14TH-- Friday
We drove to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and had a great fish fry overlooking Geneva Lake at Popeye's (nothing to do with the chicken chain). Stopped at Donovan's Reef in Twin Lakes on the way home and played some more NTN.
JANUARY 15th-- Saturday
We got a room at the Donovan's Reef Motel and spent the night. Watched the Steelers beat the Ravens. But the main reason we were there was the Packer-Falcon game. Nothing like watching the Pack in Cheesehead Land. We did a lot of cheering and drinking, not to mention the great free pizza at half time.
Even though the Falcons were supposed to win, the Pack clearly dominated and wil be going on to the NFC championship game. We had eight NTN Top Twenties even though we didn't play during the games.
JANUARY 16TH-- Sunday
Had breakfast at the Country Kitchen in Twin Lakes. Came home and changed out of our Packer duds into our Bear stuff (we're Packer fans unless they play Da Bears). Met the usual suspets (our 14 member Bears cheering section) at Fire Wood in McHenry, Illinois, for the Bear-Seahawk game. The place was packed and boisterous and we had a great win. Free pizza at half and $5 pitchers!!
So, it will be the Bears and Packers in the NFC Championship game!!! It will be nuts here on the Wisconsin-Illinois border.
We also watched that great Jets victory over Patriots. Who would have figured that?

Spooks, a War, and Great Football-- Part 1
Had a pretty good weekend.
Friday, I saw two movies at the theater, "White Out" a really frigid who-done-it and "All About Steve," one of the funniest I've ever seen with some real characters that would take Northern Exposure to another level.
SATURDAY
I went to the Fox Lake Historical Society and found out that a paranormal group had investigated out museum and found that there are spirits inhabiting it, a REAL "Night at the Museum."
Afterwards, I went to the Lake Villa Civil War Days at the Lehmann mansion. I helped man the Sons of Confederate Veterans tent. There was a battle re-enactment that was won by the Confederates. Those cannons really put off shock waves when they fire, not to mention the smoke.
Then, it was on to the German Fest at Steitz's on Lake Bluff. They've been there since the 1930s. Had some great Warsteiner beer and a brat. They had fireworks later, but I left way before that.
Came home and had a bonfire outside and later watched a great game between Georgia and Arkansas, won by the Bulldogs at Margaritaville, my downstairs bar.. I found out that Northern defeated Purdue earlier in the day. That is my alma mater (and I attended Georgia one year) and we have had only futile success against Big Ten teams with a 1-31-1 record before this!!!This year, we are 1-1 vs. the Big Ten.

Great Weekend
Had a good time this past weekend.
FRIDAY, I saw the new movie "Max Payne" at the McHenry Theater for $3. Lots of action and everything from an evil drug company, super soldiers, and betrayal with lots of action.
Bought three CDs at Border's for 40% off: Yardbirds Greatest Hits, Susan Tedeschi's Greatest Hits and the new one by Marcia Ball.
Cut the grass for possibly the last time and went over to Baja Benny's for friend John's 45th birthday.
SATURDAY
Drove to Arlington Heights and had one of Marilyn's superb breakfasts before going to the Northwestern-Purdue game in Evanston on an absolutely gorgeous day. Even better, the Wildcats won their homecoming game easily.
Afterwards, we had ribs and pizza at the Stadium in Rolling Meadows and washed it down with $1 Bud bottles while watching Northern Illinois dominate dastardly Toledo on TV. Go Huskies!!!
SUNDAY
Boated over to Baja Benny's for the usual Bears crowd and Da BEARS WON!!! 48-41. Now that was one great game.
