A Long 4th of July Celebration-- Part 2: More Bands, a Fry and Cheap Drinks
THURSDAY, JUNE 28
Still no good sales at the local stores: Wal-Mart, Home Depot and Meijer. Perhaps after the 4th.
Drove to Antioch, Illinois, for their weekly summer party called It's Thursday. We saw an up-and-coming country performer named Jake Hill and his band. He sounded real good, but until he gets to be well-known, needs to do many more covers.
Afterwards, stopped at Bootleggers on Grasslake Road and enjoyed $1 pints and saw another band.
FRIDAY, JUNE 29
We went to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, and had the fish fry at Popeye's overlooking Geneva Lake. They have one of the best fish fries we've ever eaten.
Then stopped at Donovan's Reef in Twin Lakes and enjoyed their half-price drinks at happy hour. Then home and enjoyed the basement bar, Margaritaville at Key North and, of course, the Ultimate Jukebox.

This Week, Or, How to Survive the COLD!!-- Part 2
This has been some serious c-o-l-d this past week.
JANUARY 4, THURSDAY-- Fed the birdies for first time in weeks. between the extreme cold outside and the flu or whatever I had, better to just stay inside. Found out the truck battery bit the dust in the severe cold as it is outside.
Went over to Kevin and Kelly's bar at their house Kelly makes her own beer. I love craft beer.
JANUARY 5, FRIDAY-- Did some shopping and then went to Lake Geneva where Liz and I had the fish fry at Popeye's (not the fried chicken place). Popeye's is located right across the street from frozen Geneva Lake and the Riviera. We used Liz's $20 off birthday coupon. They have one of the best fish fries anywhere.
Later, we went to the Legion, met the Usual Suspects, and had the 50-50.
When we got home, we found that we couldn't open the garage with the opener and then realized that the electricity to the house was off. That really made our night. Fortunately, the gas company had it fixed thirty minutes later. You don't want to be without electricity on a cold night like this.

Good Times Last Weekend
FRIDAY, JANUARY 29 Went to Popeye's (not the fried chicken chain) in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin for their most excellent fish fry overlooking the famous Riviera Docks on Geneva Lake. Great view and plenty of nautical effects as well as some of the best broiled and fried fish, potato pancakes and seasoned fries, cole slaw and hush puppies you're going to get anywhere.
Stopped at Donovan's Reef in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin on the way home.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 30-- The whole weekend I spent a lot of time chopping back the ice/snow from the sides of the driveway as we had temps into the 40s.
Drove to Woodstock, Illinois, for their annual Groundhog Days Festival. This is where the famous movie "Groundhog Day" starring Bill Murray was filmed. Listened to Bob Hudgins, movie site manager, for a bit as he led a large group to the many movie sites around the famed Woodstock Square and downtown.
I walked over to Wayne's Lanes, featured in the movie and watched part of te movie. Outside of the bowling alley was where they got into the car before going on the chase where they ended up on the railroad tracks.
Last stop was at the Public House by the old courthouse, where the "Drink to World Peace" scenes were filmed, but it was too crowded so came home.
SUNDAY, JANUARY 31-- Celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Chicago Bears Super Bowl XX Championship at the Squaw Bar in Ingleside, Illinois, by watching the "Super Bowl Shuffle" and the game. Huge , loud and appreciative crowd cheering the whole way.

Decision Made
OK, yesterday, I had a dilemma. To have or not have a Crawfish Tackle Box or McRib meal.
The old mouth was definitely salivating. Did I hear a bell somewhere?
HEADS OR TAILS?
Drove into Round Lake Beach and after paying my truck insurance, went to Popeye's. They were having a free crawfish tasting, but not advertising it. You got a small cup with three fried tails in it along with that great horseradish sauce. I was going to get the Crawfish Tackle Box anyway, but not going to pass up on FREE crawfish.
I bought the Crawfish Tackle Box Combo which comes with a heaping helping of tails and sauce, biscuit, fries and drink. That really filled me up, but then I saw they had fried sweet potato pie so had to get that for dessert. Anything sweet potato is a treat.
IT'S SLOW GOOD
After watching another fantastic Clint Eastwood movie, "Hereafter" at the Fox Lake Theatre, I went over to buddy Rick's and then we went to McDonald's on US-12 where we had.........McRIBS!! It comes as a sandwich for $2.49 or meal for $4.99: sandwich, fries and drink.
My taste buds immediately were in heaven.
So, my decision was to have both. I just couldn't wait another day. Not good for me, but really good for me.

Decisions, Decisions!!
And we're not talking politics here.
We're talking McRib vs Crawfish Tackle Box.
They're Back, and we're not talking post-Halloween poltergeists. What I'm talking about is McDonald's wonderful McRIB!! I have to admit that I'm a big fan, no, actually an addicted FAN.
I will actually drive out of my way to get one. That is one special taste, let me tell you. The fact that it is for a limited time makes even each morsel just that more special.
Now, i see that Popeye's has their own limited time offering, the Crawfish tackle Box.
I sure do love crawfish when I don't have to shuck them.
I'm driving into Round Lake Beach in a few minutes. There is a McDonald's along the way in Fox Lake and another one in RLB and a Popeye's as well. That makes for a hard choice.
