Cryan' Shames "Sugar and Spice"

I just noticed that the Cryan' Shames had the #8 song on the WLS Silver Dollar Survey on July 15, 1966, fifty years ago.  It was the title track of the album by them that I have at the top of this blog and has been for quite some time now.

It would eventually peak at #4 in Chicago and hit #49 on Billboard in August.  Joel Whitman wrote this about tge group:  "Six-man rock band from Chicago-- Thomas Doody, lead singer."

Coincidence?  How About That?  --RoadDog

4000th Post for This Blog!!

Well, actually, this is the 4032nd post.  That's sure a whole lot of two-fingered typing.  This blog has the most entries of all seven of my blogs and is the second-oldest, coming about when I was unable to get into my first one, RoadDog's RoadLog Blog.

Happy New Year, 3546th Post: "Mother of All My Blogs"

This blog just finished seven years and now starting the eighth. It was my secind blog and grew out of when I was unable to get the original blog, RoadDog's RoadLog Blog up on the home computer after I got home from Nashville.

This one was to be about anything and everything I found of interest outside of old roads.

I post more entries on this one (now 3546) than any of the others and it is mostly about what I'm up to and music.

This one is the mother of all of my blogs other than the first one. As I found myself writing a lot about certain items, I spun those out as new blogs: Cooter's History Thing, Saw the Elephant, Running the Blockade, Tattooed On Your Soul and Not So Forgotten.

Very few postings the last two weeks as I was a a trip to North Carolina and the laptop did not work. Of course, this computer, an XP, will go down in April as whoever owns it is going to pull out of support to make some more money.

I really hate those guys.

Won't Somebody Tell Me How to Get Off HTML

That is why there are still no paragraphs in my entries. I hate it, but have no clue how to get back onto compose (and even get spellcheck back). I have no idea how this mess started. Perhaps I hit the wrong key or somehing.

I have started using /// to show where a paragraph should be.

Definitely Technologically Challenged.

It Would Appear We're Back to the Run-On Paragraphs

Once again I can't compose in the body of the writing and I'm not sure exactly what I did a couple weeks ago to fix it.

Like I said, I hate run-on paragraphs.

Today is September 22, 2018, and right now I am going back and putting in paragraphs for eight months of seven blogs.

Did I Figure Out the Problem, Or Did Blogspot?

As you can see in the last post, I can now again use paragraphs and skip lines.

I hit the compose/HTML spots and all of a sudden, I could get paragraphs again.  So, was it me or was it Blogspot that helped me out.

It sure would have been nice if it was Blogspot.

I'll have to see if the problem is solved on the other blogs.  And, then again, maybe I just hit a wrong utton back then when al  the problems started.  With computers and such, you never know.

We'll see if this prints up nice.

3000th Post

Slipped by me, but this is my 3,038th post on this blog.  That is over 3,000 too many, but guess I'm hooked.  This one came about because I was unable to get into my original blog, RoadDog's RoadLog.  Trying to get into it, I came up with this one which was originally going to handle all my other interests besides road travel.

That was five blogs ago and soon a Civil War blog and history blog arrived and last year, there came a Civil War Navy, World War II and War of 1812 blogs, commemorating the 150th, 70th and 200th anniversaries of these conflicts.

All I Can Say Is That I Spend WAY Too Much Time on These Blogs.  --RoadDog

Here We Go Again

Bob Stroud likes to play parts of songs from the Time Warp date he is on, last Sunday, March 3, 1965, as he segues from commercials back to the music.  He played one from that date called "Let's Lock the Door" and for the life of me, I could not remember who did it and he didn't say.

So today, before I put it on my Where Were You entry, I looked it up.  It was Jay and the Americans.  Unfortunately, there was a place to view it on You Tube and, like a fool, there I go off to Never-Get-Out-of-You-Tube Land.

Alright, then there was "Only in America," "She Cried" and a bunch of others that needed watching.  Then, I see Randy and the Daytonas "Denise."

Then, here comes a whole bunch of Three Stooges videos, including some with an elderly Larry and Moe.  Moe still had the same haircut, only gray.

Why It Takes So Long to Do These Dumb Blogs

Well, one thing leads to another.

In connection with son Al's death, I went to You Tube.  It is always a mistake to go to You Tube as that usually is a three hour layover.  One thing leads to another.  I hate those video offerings on the right side.  Takes up a lot of time.

Anyway, with Alfons being such a Cub fan, I looked up Steve Goodman's "A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request" on You Tube and found one of him playing on one of the famous rooftop places across from Wrigley Field's left field.  It was six minutes of Steve playing a guitar and singing the song.  I have to wonder how he remembered all those words.  Great video.

Then, there was one of him playing my favorite country song, "You Never Even Call Me By My Name" made ever-so-famous by David Allan Coe and also called "The Perfect Country and Western Song" which is what I called it when I played it back in the deejaying days.  Always a great sing-a-long, especially when you hit that one part.  Well, Steve did not sing that "one part" the way we've always heard it.

Then, there was that great "Lincoln Park Pirates" and "City of New Orleans" of Goodman's.

Unfortunately, Steve Goodman said he co-wrote "Name" with John Prine, well, that took more time.  I'm a big Prine fan as well.

My other three blogs: Roadlog, Running the Blockade and Saw the Elephant are not in the doghouse so I can see them.

So, Again, I apologize, but must have been a bad boy and am sitting in that proverbial corner.

Blogger Still Essentially Down, But Having More Fun

Even though Blogspot has elected to hassle me and NOT TELL WHY, I find that the added time is well spent both working in the yard and, of course, boating.  All they will say is that my browser is no longer supported by Blogger.  Looks like I'll need to start searching for a new home for my blogs.

People ask me why, if we are both retired, we don't move from here,  Hey, summer here on the Chain of Lakes and in northeastern Illinois is as much fun as you can have anywhere else.

Just this past weekend, we saw three bands outside and boated over to McDonald's for breakfast (not many places you can do that) and ate on the boat.

Back on the Blog Again

Last time I was on the internet was Thursday. Friday, we had really bad storms and turned everything off to avoid an electrical charge. Saturday there were more storms, but not bad enough to turn off the ol' 'pute. However, out internet service was down, then we were gone the rest of the day.

Sunday is my usual "Day Off" from these dumb old blogs, so I took it.

Oops! Missed That Milestone: 2,000

Sometime back in April, I passed a bit of a blog milestone, number 2,000. That's a lot of two-fingered typing and research.

This blog started back in 2007 when I was unable to to get logged into my RoadDog's Roadlog Blog. I was testing and came up with this one.

It has since come to be one about general stuff I do and music of all sorts. I also have one place on it where I get the chance to blow off steam, "It's Them, Not Me." Quite often, of course, these are directed towards Big Oil and others intent on making us pay more to drive, and not just a little more, A WHOLE LOT MORE.

My history Blog, Cooter's History Thing, has over 1600 entries.
The Road Blog has 1,926 entries.
The Civil War Blog has 1,610.

I'll have to look up the other two blogs to see how many they have.

EVER WONDER...Why they're called apartments when they're all stuck together?

1001 or 998?

My Blogger Dashboard listed the last entry as number 1000. However, the count on the blog page, when added together, came to 997, now both one higher. I am not sure of why this is.

The blog page, before this one, counts by year:

2007-- 299
2008-- 430
2009-- 268

Regardless, that is a lot of posts.
