JSS About That Virus Thing: Commercials, Piano Dirges, Trying Times, Whole Milk
Just Some Stuff About These Days.
1. COMMERCIALS-- Listening to the radio and watching TV, there seems to be a whole lot of commercials about how to get out of your time shares. Sure glad we didn't buy one back in the days when we went to Myrtle Beach and were accosted often by these wonderful deals that were too good to pass up.
If it's not that, then it is lawsuits against nursing homes for elderly abuse. You'd think these days the biggest worry about nursing homes would be the CV getting in.
2. PIANO DIRGES-- I am getting to the point that I can't stand those slow, dirge pianos on commercials anymore. Hope they don't destroy my love of piano.
3. TRYING TIMES-- However, I have a new drinking game since I can't go into bars anymore right now. Every time I hear a commercial with the words "Trying" Times or some variation of it, it is time to take a drink. After awhile you forget about it all.
4. WHOLE MILK-- Liz has been the one going to the store to buy stuff and she only gets whole milk (the Walgreens selection is limited), whereas I like 2% milk. I remember the old days when my parents had milk delivered in those metal boxes which were handy places to store crickets, grass hoppers, frogs, toads and lizards we'd collect.

REPORTED IN THE PAPER: A man walked into a Topeka, Kansas, Kwik Shop and demanded all the money in the cash drawer. Apparently the take was too small, so he tied up the store clerk and worked the counter himself until police showed up and grabbed him.

Indy 500 Winner Rossi Got 2% Milk-- Part 2: No Orange Juice for Me
All but two drivers have observed the milk tradition since 1936. The most recent example of a broken tradition took place when Emerson Fittpaldi drank orange juice to promote the citrus industry in 1992. This set off a huge public outrage.
According to the American Dairy Association Indiana, the milk for the Indy 500 winner was provided by Indiana dairy farmer Janet Dague of Kewanna.
This year, in addition, the first 100,000 race visitors got their own commemorative bottle of milk, so they too can raise a victory toast.
Some of my favorite racers choices:
Whole: Ed Carpenter, James Hichcliffe, Juan Pablo Montoya and Will Power
2%: Helio Castroneves, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Tony Kanaan.

YOU'RE OLD IF YOU REMEMBER: When it was considered to be a great privilege to be taken out to dinner at a real restaurant with your parents. And, you would never ever think of misbehaving. Or else!!

Indy 500 Winner Rossi Got the 2% Milk-- Part 1: Louis Meyer Started It
From the May 27, 2016, Indianapolis Star "Thanks to Louis, drivers make milk choices" by Allison Carter.
"After you've been in a blazing hot car traveling in excess of 200 mph, there's nothing you want more than a glass of milk. Or, at least that is so the venerable Indianapolis tradition goes.
"In 1936, Louis Meyer requested a glass of buttermilk after winning his third race and the rest is history.
"Buttermilk is no longer offered, but drivers do get to choose between whole, 2 percent and fat-free. Every driver records their preference before the race in case they win, and the milk is kept on ice to be drunk (and often dumped on the driver's head) in victory lane.
"This year, whole milk led the way with 17 requests. Next came 2 percent with 13 drivers opting for the lower-fat option. One of these was Alexander Rossi. Just three drivers-- Charles Kimball, Pippa Mann and Spencer Pigot-- went fat-free.
I Could Think of Another Drink I'd Like In Case I Won the Indy 500. --RoadDog
YOU'RE OLD IF YOU REMEMBER: When you got your windshield cleaned, oil checked and gas pumped without asking, for free, every time. And you got trading stamps and other things for free as well.

Sore Feet, Too Much Food, BUT, Didn't Buy Nothin'
A Day at the Wisconsin State Fair.
We did go to the fair on August 9th, and enjoyed ourselves despite the Chicago-level prices and light rain that we had early on. When the rain stopped and the sun came out, the heat became almost unbearable.
Met Rick and Chris at the Old Style Heartland Pavilion, our usual place to meet. We do some stuff together and others separately. If we get separated, we meet back here on the hour. However, now that we have cell phones, it's not such a problem anymore.
One place that still has reasonable prices is the Wisconsin Products Pavilion. They, of course, feature items made in Wisconsin and cheap prices as well as samplers. I had an ostrich stick, ice cream sundae, buffalo burrito. I also had three small cups of milk at Herb's Milk House which is sponsored by US Senator Herb Kohl. I like their different flavors like chocolate, mocha, and strawberry.
We saw several favorite bands like Hat Trick, the band that doesn't know where the stage is as they meander among the crowd and play Cajun and Buffett style music. Also saw the Rhythm Kings who play several summer dates a year out at Captain's Quarters on the Chain.
An Irish place by Old Style had a bagpiper and later a guy singing Irish songs- imagine that! Michael Drake had the crowd hopping at the Tropics.
My poor feet were very tired when we left, but I am happy to report that I didn't buy anything from any place out there, a first.
Well, Maybe I Will Go Back Despite the Chicago Prices. --RoadDog

Prices...Ouch!!! : Now Milk
Just went shopping and was taken aback by the $3.50 a gallon for milk!!! Our dairy farmers must be getting like the good ol' boys in Big Oil. That $3.50 a gallon for milk is just about the same as a gallon of gas. However, I realize that the increased gas prices have sent the cost of everything up. Strangely, I don't hear much about inflation, but it is evidently here.
Went to Des Plaines today and saw gas in that area at $3.40. It is still at $3.30 (that's $3.29.9) around here. A friend I was driving with said that Mobil-Exxon had posted a whopping $500,000,000,000 in earnings this last quarter. He said something about that being the biggest earnings any US company had ever made. How can everybody be hurting as badly as we are, and some people are making profit off that hurt?
Who do these guys think they're fooling? I, for one, do not believe any of their excuses or reasons. How much longer must we endure this ridiculous situation?
