My Picks for 2018 Inductees for the Rock and Roll Music Hall of Fame

On December 14, I listed the nominated artists for the Class of 2018.

My five picks:

**  Todd Rundgren   Quite a talented and varied career. Of course, there is his "Bang On the Drum" song.

**  Zombies    One of the better 1960s groups.

**  Stevie Nicks    Just something about her fairy quality and that voice.

**  Def Leppard    Hit after hit.

**  John Prine   A personal favorite.  Part of that great Chicago folk scene.

Moody Blues--    Those spaced-out albums

Dire Straits--  Money for Nothing if necessary.

Zombies--  It's the Time of the Season to be inducted

J. Geils Band--  You had the R&B and then "Centerfield" era.

Music Deaths: Glen Campbell-- Part 3: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

I just took it for granted that Glen Campbell must be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  But, NO!!!  He isn't.

Just for his playing with the "Wrecking Crew" alone should earn him a place, not to mention his playing with the Beach Boys.

Then, how about a primarily country artist having 36 songs in the Pop Top 100, including two #1s, three other Top Tens and twenty-one Top 40s.  These all came between 1961 and 1981.

I checked Google to see if he was in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and there were sure a lot of people saying that he should be there.  Maybe those who pick who is going to be in it wake up and do the right thing.

My Picks for the Next Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class

Personally, I would only rarely ever pick a first time group or individual.  There are too many that deserve to be there and haven't yet gotten there.  I have never even heard of Bad Brain.

My Five:

ZOMBIES--  As fine of 60s rock as you can get.

JOAN BAEZ--  highly influential folkie.

STEPPENWOLF--  Just "Born to Be Wild" should be enough to get them in, not to mention all those others.

JOURNEY--  You forget how many hits they had.  What is left of Journey, one guy, played at Carb Daythis past Indy 500 and it was amazing how many people were just singing along.

CARS--  Another group with so many hits.

Well, My picks Anyway.  --RoadDog

Creedence Clearwater Revival-- Part 3: Internal and Legal Problems

The group broke up in 1972, but still owed 8 albums to Fantasy records.  John Fogerty refused to honor the contract and had to pay Fantasy owner Saul Zaentz performance rights to play his own songs and stopped performing them for many years.

In 1985, John Fogerty had a comeback album with Centerfield.  Zaentz sued for copyright infringement for "Old Man Down the Road" saying that it plagiarized "Run Through the Jungle."  In other words, Fogerty was sued for copying his own song.  The courts decided in favor of Fogerty.

But, Zaentz was able to get an out-of-court settlement for defamation on Fogerty's "Zanz Kant Danz."

Tom Fogerty died of AIDs complica from a transfusion after having not spoken with his brother John for years.

At the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 1993. CCR members Stu Cook and Doug Clifford were not allowed on the stage.  Tom Fogerty's wife had his ashes on the stage.

John Fogerty, inspired by a visit to bluesman Robert Johnson's grave, started playing his Creedence songs again.

2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees

Congratulations to Bill Withers, Lou reed, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Green Day, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Joan Jett. The 5 Royales will also be enshrined as an early influence.  Ringo Starr, already in as a member of the Beatles, will be honored for his musical excellence.  But I believe he should also be in the Hall on his own.  He certainly had some great tunes in the 1970s.

Fifteen singles and 12 albums are also now included on the Hall of Fame list which now numbers 987.  They include "Big Girls Don't Cry" from the Four Seasons, "I Fought the Law" by the Bobby Fuller Four, "Rescue Me" by Fontella Bass, that great old Beach Music and dirty song "Sixty Minute Man" by Billy Ward & the Dominoes, "Tell It Like It Is" by Aaron Neville, "School's Out" by Alice Cooper (where we got our boat name) and "Dancing Queen" by ABBA.

2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees-- Part 2

Half of the inductees will be posthumous.  Paul Butterfield died in 1987, Stevie Ray Vaughan in 1990 and Lou reed just last year.  he was already inducted, however, with his band, Velvet Underground in 1996.

Bill Withers, perhaps best-known for his songs "Lean On me," "Use Me," "Just the Two of Us" and "Ain't No Sunshine" told Rolling Stone Magazine that he would consider playing at the induction in April and couldn't remember the last time he'd done a concert.  The last album he released was in 1985.

Congratulations to All.  --RoadDog

2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees-- Part 1

From the December 17, 2014, Chicago Tribune  "Rock Hall class includes Jett, Withers, Reed."

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Green Day, Bill Withers, Lou reed, Stevie Ray Vaughan and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band will make up the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of "15.

Ringo Starr will be honored with the Award of Excellence (he was also inducted with the Beatles in April). Personally, I think he should be inducted on his own as he certainly had some great songs after the Beatles broke up, plus his All-Star bands he tours with all these years.

The North Carolina R&B "5" Royales will be honored with the Early Influence Award.  They combined gospel, doo-wop and jump blues in their music and were a big part of Beach Music.

Come On Ringo!!  --RoadDog
