JSIS In These Troubling Times: People's Wealth-- IPA or Malort?-- What About All That Beer In the Coolers?-- Buses

JSIS--  Just Some Interesting Stuff in These Troubling Times.

Taken from the Chicago Tribune.

1.  PEOPLE'S WEALTH--  One thing that alarms me is how many people in the United States appear to be living paycheck to paycheck with all these folks applying for unemployment.  This just shows the increasing gap between those who are super rich and most everyone else.

2.  IPA OR MALLORT?--  I see that Revolution Brewing Company was stuck with a lot of kegs of their flagship Anti-Hero IPA beer that was running out of freshness code and would have to be thrown out.  But, they have reached a deal with Chicago's CH Distillery to create a Malort liquor made from the IPA beer.  Making the best of a bad situation.

Malort is an extremely bitter liquor in Chicago.  I had a taste once... but not again.  Bitter is an understatement.  Of course, I don't like IPA either.  If I only had the choice of drinking an IPA or water, I's choose good ol' H2O.

3.  WHAT ABOUT ALL THAT BEER IN THE COOLERS?--  Which brings me to this thought.  What about all that beer in bar coolers when the shutdown hit?  Much if not most of that is now probably out of date as well.  What a waste of good beer.  And, we all know that the freshness code really is too short.  If it ain't funky, I'm drinking it.  Hey, what about specials on the expired beer?

4.  BUSES--  And, one "s" is the correct plural form of the word.  But, I had to look it up.  The nation's 3,000 or so private bus lines and the millions of people who rely on them for cheap transportation are worried about surviving this without government intervention.More than 95% of the country's private bus fleet is now shut down.

Just Got Back From the Indy 500-- Part 1: On Arrival

Monday, May 27, I came back from the 103rd Running of the Indy 500.  I went in Sue and Paul's RV, leaving from their place in Round lake, Illinois, on Thursday, May 23.

This will be a shortened version of what we did while there.  I'll write a much more detailed one in my RoadDog's RoadLog blog later this year.

THURSDAY, MAY 23

Stopped at the White Castle in Gurnee, Illinois, for our slider fix and then the Tri-State through Illinois to I-65 in Indiana and to Indianapolis on it.  We have a spot at the American Legion Post 500 in Speedway, right across from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which makes coming and going very handy.

Lots of evidence of rain  the past few days and threat of rain for the whole time we were there.  Quite muddy.

After getting the site arranged and as mudproofed as possible, we had a welcome cocktail then walked over to Speedway's Main Street and did our flight of beer at the Daredevil Brewing Company and all chose Negra for our beer of choice and had another coupla drinks at the Irish bar.

Back to the RV for bbq, cocktails, then the American Legion post for drinks in their bar.

Get Your $120 Beer Here

From the Nov. 12, 2012, Chicago Tribune "How to get $120 black truffle beer" by Josh Noel.

This is even expensive by Wrigley Field standards  I'm wondering if Mr. Noel had the opportunity to taste it?

Not your standard Miller Lite beer.

The most expensive beer ever to come out of a Chicago brewery will be coming out (already out now).  Moody Tongue's Shaved Black Truffle Pilsner will come out, beginning Nov. 14, when you can register to get a bottle at www.moodytongue.com/blacktruffle.

Five hundred people who sign up will have the opportunity to buy ONE 22-ounce bottle...for $120!!!  Pickup will be Dec. 1-5 at the Binny's at 1720 N. Marcey Street.  Those 500 get the opportunity to buy future releases of Black Truffle Pilsner.

Hey, I Didn't Buy a Bottle, Nor Did I Register. I'll Stick With My Miller Lite ($1.50 Tonight at Squaw Bar)  --RoadDog
