DOWN ONTHE CORNER/FORTUNATE SON-- CCR-- Still my all-time favorites. Another great two-sided hit.
COME TOGETHER/SOMETHING-- BEATLES-- Imagine the Beatles having a two-sided hit?

HOLLY HOLY-- NEIL DIAMOND-- I liked this one even better than "Sweet Caroline" and sure don't get to hear it as much. Seems every karaoke has to play "Caroline."

A Look Back: Top 20 Songs November 1972-- Part 2
Apparently Bob Stroud will be doing his Rock and Roll Roots Show on WDRV Sunday from 7 to 10 AM CST on songs playing 40 years ago during the presidential election of 1972. I know the Republican candidate was the sitting president, Richard Nixon, fresh off Watergate and that he won. Without looking it up, I think the Democrat was either Hubert Humphrey or Eugene McCarthy. I'm sure I'll learn which on the show.
Stroud has been back to 1972 four times already this year as his Summer series of 4 shows were all on the Summer of '72.
Anyway, we'll see how many of these songs are played.

Going back 40 years ago. Wow, 40 years ago and I remember hearing 'em all back then.
1. I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW-- Johnny Nash-- Early reggae.
2. I'D LOVE YOU TO WANT ME-- Lobo
3. NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN-- Moody Blues-- Liz's all-time favorite song.
4. I'LL BE AROUND-- Spinners
5. FREDDIE'S DEAD-- Curtis Mayfield--
6. I AM WOMAN-- Helen Reddy-- I always think of the "Coach" episode when he and the woman's basketball coach were pimping each other "I Am Cow, Hear Me Moo."
7. PAPA WAS A ROLLIN' STONE-- Temptations--
8. MY DING-A-LING-- Chuck Berry-- His biggest hit. Can you spell double -e-n-t-e-n-d-r-e? I remember a General Finance Christmas Party with Freddie singing this on top of a little table.

A Look Back: Top 20 Songs October 1962-- Part 1
Taken from The Book of Hit Singles: Top 20 Charts From 1954 to the Present Day (well, 2001) by Dave McAleer.
Based on the Billboard Charts for the whole month.
Going back 50 years to this month, October 1962. I was 11, in sixth grade and living in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. This was PB (Pre-Beatles) so I wasn't listening to music at the time.
1. MONSTER MASH-- Bobby "Boris" Pickett & the Crypt Kickers. I wonder if he was related to Wilson (as in Pickett). I actually got to see him sing this song at the Kenosha County (Wisconsin) Fair. For some reason, I sure played this song a lot in October when I was deejaying.
2. SHERRY-- FOUR SEASONS-- An all-time great.
3. RAMBLIN' ROSE-- NAT "KING" COLE-- One of my Dad's favorites. Dad listening to pop music? Who'd have figured.
4. PATCHES-- DICKEY LEE-- The only "Patches" song I knew was that syrupy one by Clarence Carter.
5. DO YOU LOVE ME-- CONTOURS-- Great song when released. Great in that dance scene from ""Dirty Dancing."
6. I REMEMBER YOU-- FRANK IFIELD--
7. LET'S DANCE-- CHRIS MONTEZ-- "Food Fight!!!!" You remember that scene from "Animal House."
8. GREEN ONIONS-- BOOKER T. & THE M.G.S-- How do you make a better instrumental than this.
9. HE'S A REBEL-- CRYSTALS-- Great girl-group song.
10. ONLY LOVE CAN BREAK A HEART-- GENE PITNEY--
