Apparently Bob Stroud will be doing his Rock and Roll Roots Show on WDRV Sunday from 7 to 10 AM CST on songs playing 40 years ago during the presidential election of 1972. I know the Republican candidate was the sitting president, Richard Nixon, fresh off Watergate and that he won. Without looking it up, I think the Democrat was either Hubert Humphrey or Eugene McCarthy. I'm sure I'll learn which on the show.
Stroud has been back to 1972 four times already this year as his Summer series of 4 shows were all on the Summer of '72.
Anyway, we'll see how many of these songs are played.
11. CONVENTION '72-- Delegates-- I don't remember this one, but definitely a song of the time.
12. WITCHY WOMAN-- Eagles
13. SUMMER BREEZE-- Seals & Crofts-- Great timing guys, we're going into winter.
14. BURNING LOVE-- Elvis Presley-- "A Hunka-Hunka..."
15. LISTEN TO THE MUSIC-- Doobie Brothers
16. IF YOU DON'T KNOW ME BY NOW-- Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes
17. YOU OUGHT TO BE WITH ME-- Al Green
18. GOODTIME CHARLIE'S GOT THE BLUES-- Danny O'Keefe
19. BEN-- Michael Jackson-- Really, a song about a rat?
20. VENTURA HIGHWAY-- America
Cruising Back 40. --RoadDog
THE FINAL WHICH CAME FIRST: Band-Aids, Kleenex, Lipstick, Contact Lenses. Answers tomorrow.
