Who to Back in the 'Big Game' or Is It the Souper Bowl?

**  Well, tomorrow, it is here and again, Da Bears aren't in it.  But, as usual, we don't know who our quarterback will be next year.  You want to see something sad, look up how many qbs have started for Da Bears during the Favre/Rodgers era at Green Bay.  Now that is sad.  (Answer below)

**  I hate the 5:30 start.  Should start at 3.  Come on, it gets dark real fast these early days of February.

**  Bet, Bet, Bet Your Money on all those sporting aps.  Win millions of dollars.  Yep, right.

**  Who to back?  Who to back?  When neither Da Bears or Da Packers are not in it.  Yep, I do back both teams and am a Packer fan unless they play Da Bears.

**  I am more of an NFC fan and do like the Buccaneers as my third favorite NFC team, but I have a problem.  I am not a New England Patriot fan, ergo, Tom Brady and he is the Tampa Bay QB.  Though, I must admit he is one of if not THE greatest NFL quarterbacks ever.  Just look at how badly he beat Aaron in the NFC Championship game.

**  But, Kansas City is a Midwest team and I back most Midwest teams.  And then, there is the young quarterback Patrick Mahomes.  But, he is becoming as ubiquitous as Ditka and Jordan were in their heyday in commercials.

**  And to think Da Bears could have had him, but went with Trubisky.  And they could have had Watson as well, but you know who they went with.

Reckon I will eat some soup at the Legion for the Souper Bowl and then go home and pull for the Chiefs before they have to change their name.

JSS--  Just Some Stuff.

1.  DA SORRY BEARS--  Our Chicago Bears are finishing one of the most horrible seasons of late, 3-12 going into Sunday's game.  We're hoping for a loss as that is the only thing we have to gain... and that would be a higher draft choice.  Of course, with the Bears, a high draft choice is usually wasted, especially with a much-needed qb.

2.  DA LOUSY NFL SCHEDULING-- We were all set to watch the Packer-Lion game at noon tomorrow at Donovan's Reef in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, but now that it has been moved to 7:30, looks like we'll have to settle for Da Lousy Bears playing Da Worthless Vikings.

3.  CUTLER'S NOT OUR MAN--  Hopefully this season will convince Bear management once and for all that Jay Cutler is not the guy to lead us.  Sadly, all that skill and not the thing that makes for a winning NFL qb up in that head of his.

We should get a high draft choice, and it should be a quarterback.  But the Bears have a sorry record in our last high profile qbs:  Cade McNown, Rex Grossman and Der Jay.

The Greatest Quarterback That No One Wants? Kyle Orton

From November 4, 2014, Yahoo! Sports "Buffalo's Kyle orton Is One of the Best Journeymen in NFL History."

Earlier this season the Buffalo Bills benched starting qb E,J. Manuel and put back up Kyle Orton in where he is now 3-1 as a starter and has the Bills at 5-3 and in the hunt for the playoffs.

Since 1958, there have been 17 quarterbacks who have started for five different teams, and Orton is one of them.  He has played for the Bears, Broncos, Chiefs, Cowboys and now the Bills and is 38-36 as a starter.

As a rookie, he went 10-5 with the Bears and led them to the playoffs, but was placed on the bench once there in favor of Rex Grossman (whom we like to call Gross Rexman for his extremely poor play).  We also believe the Bears could even have their last appearance in the Super Bowl had Orton played instead of Grossman.

Then, the Bears traded Orton to Denver for Jay Cutler.  And, we all know how ineffective Scary Jay is for us.  With Denver in 2010, Orton was 3-10, but a lot of that was because of how horrible the Bronco defense was that year.

I wonder if the Bills would like to trade qbs with us, even-up (considering how "elite" Jay is and the fact that Coach trestman thinks Jay will be the NFL's MVP this year.

How About That, Jordan Lynch's Great Heisman Finish

From the Dec. 16,2013, SB Nation Hustle Belt "Jordan Lynch Heisman Finish Has Huge Impact On Mid-American Conference, NIU" by NIUfan 86. For any of you who like and follow the Mid-American Conference, this IS the blog for you.

"Jameis Winston, of Florida State, ran away with the Heisman Trophy on Saturday. But for those of us who embrace the underdog and favor the little guy (like Georgia Southern defeating Florida or Appalachian Stae beating Michigan), there was a bigger story-- Jordan Lynch, Northern Illinois' first Heisman finalist, finished with 40 first place votes and 558 points, behind Winston and A.J. McCarron of Alabama."

Of course, Lynch's success hopefully will help both NIU and the MAC in recruiting.

Lynch played high school football at Chicago's powerhouse Mt. Carmel, but just one college program offered him a scholarship, Northern Illinois (thanks to former coach Jerry Kill, a huy who really knows his talent). Lynch was back-up for two years behind Chandler Harnish, also a great qb.

I remember when Harnish graduated after the 2011 season and Go-Daddy Bowl, we were a bit worried about how well the Lynch fellow could follow Harnish. Turns out we didn't have anything to worry about.

Of course, now we have to wonder about McIntire and Hale following Lynch.

JSS: Great Football Game-- Romo and Peyton-- USA Today $2

JSS-- Just Some Stuff.

1. GREAT FOOTBALL GAME-- Usually, I just watch Da Bears or Da Pack on NFL gameday. But, yesterday, the Cowboy vs. Bronco game was on at both Antonio's and Tommy's and was that ever some game. Back and forth most of the game with Denver winning in the last second with a field goal to break a tie 51-48. And, then there was that great sneak run by Peyton on that one play. It sure fooled me, not to mention the guy filming the game.

2. ROMO AND PEYTON-- And, the game featured two of my favorite quarterbacks. Peyton Manning is the greatest. Can't believe Indy treated him so badly at the end of his great career there. I've liked him since he played at Tennessee. And, I really hate the Cowboys, but do like Tony Romo. He played high school ball about thirty miles from here in Burlington, Wisconsin, and played college ball at one of the little guy schools, Eastern Illinois

USA TODAY $2-- I was a bit shocked today when I went to Walgreens and bought the USA Today to find that the they had jacked its price 100%, from $1 to $2. The Chicago Tribune recently jumped its price 50 cents to $1.50 and that was bad enough, but, now this. OUCH!!!

Big Game in Town: Colts Vs. Patriots

Well, not Chicago, but one I'll watch anyway.

That would be the matchup of the two unbeatens in the NFL, the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts. Now, I don't normally watch any NFL games unless its Da Bears or Da Pack, my two favorites. That's right, I like both teams, but definitely pull for the Bears when they play each other. I'll also watch a game if I'm at a bar and it's the only thing on TV.

However, this game today, is a BIG one.

I used to feel a bit sorry for the Patriots because the first time they went to the Super Bowl they lost against that great 1985 Bears team and it was a blow out. Then the second time was to the Packers, both at New Orleans' Super Bowl. However, of late, the Patriots have MORE than made up for those two losses.

I'm pulling for the Colts.

And, besides, the Colts are my third favorite team. A bunch of buddies and I used to go to Indianapolis for a game each year back when they were bad and you could get tickets, but those are hard to reasonably come by any more. Also, Tony Dungey is one of my favorite coaches after Mike Holmgren.

Plus, Indianapolis is a Midwestern team. Then there is Peyton Manning who also quarterbacked one of my favorite colleges, Tennessee.

Sad to see that the Patriots rallied to win the game.
