How Long This Time?

Fun and computer games continue.  Thanks to a buddy, I got back on the internet in December, then went off it again.  I bought a new pc and somehow managed to get it hooked up and, well here I am again.

For how long who knows?

Plus, I now have to figure out how to get to my other three blogs on this site.  I haven't posted on them since May of 2023.

Wish Me Luck As I Attempt to Set Up the New Computer Today

Last Friday, I bought a new personal computer at Wal-Mart, an HP all-in-one Windows 10 for $399 and today I am going to attempt to install it.

I do not expect to succeed, given my continuing record dealing with all this new technology/  I am, as they say, technologically challenged.  Our current pcs are XPs and no longer supported by Windows as I see every time I turn mine on.

I would gave gotten a new pc earlier, but again, I have to learn how to set it  up and use it, something I am not good at in any fashion.

I still use a 2003 flip phone and still hardly know how  to use it.

Well, Wish Me Luck.  --RoadHuh?

Nothing But Computer Problems the Last Two Weeks

In case you're wondering how come there have been so few posts the last several weeks, it is because of computer problems.

Yesterday I bought a new computer (ours are XPs)  and still have to set it up which should be quite a problem as I am very technologically challenged.

But, I will do the best I can.

Hope to see you guys on the other side.

I'd Celebrate That!!! April 1-4: Fool Me All of the Time

APRIL 1

APRIL FOOLS' DAY--  **  Not me, but you.  I'll never forget the time at Donovan's Reef in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, when Jeff moved his parents' furniture outside onto the beach.  Real funny.  But they didn't think so.

NATIONAL SOURDOUGH BREAD DAY--  **  One of my favorite breads.

NATIONAL PENNIES DAY--  **  I still bend down to pick one up.

APRIL 2

NATIONAL FERRET DAY--  **  Just don't let the Budweiser lizard see you petting the ferret.

NATIONAL PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY DAY--  **  Still one of life's little joys, especially with an extra glob of jelly.

APRIL 3

AMERICAN CIRCUS DAY--  **  Sad to see us losing them.

NATIONAL WALKING DAY--  **  Like they told me at work.  "Go take a hike."

APRIL 4

INTERNATIONAL CARROT DAY--  **  My personal favorite carrot is the healthy and highly edible carrot cake.

NATIONAL BURRITO DAY--  **  A favorite.  (Observed the first Thursday in April)

404 DAY--  Computer speak for Not Found.   That's OK, I'm lost around 'puters anyway.

NATIONAL PIG DAY--  **  And, they're so good... to eat.

SHARE A SMILE DAY-- **   Never hurts.

REFIRED NOT RETIRED DAY-- **   I guess this is about being retired.  I wish I had more time to enjoy it.  Time goes by so fast now.

MARCH 2

DRESS IN BLUE DAY--  **  To raise money for cancer.  Problem for me is that blue was the color of Union uniforms during the war.

EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION DAY--  **  Nothing gets done without them.

NATIONAL BANANA CREAM PIE DAY--  **  I love most any kind of pie.

NATIONAL DOODLE DAY--  **  I've been known to do this.

OLD STUFF DAY--  **  Walk into my house and you know why I support this one.  Some say I support it too much.

NATIONAL READ ACROSS AMERICA DAY--  **  Also known as Dr. Seuss Day.  Reading is good.

MARCH 3

33 FLAVORS DAY--  **  As in ICE CREAM!!!!    Anniversary of the opening of the first Baskin-Robbins.

NATIONAL ANTHEM DAY--  **  When you-know-what officially became the National Anthem on March 3, 1931.  Reckon I'll be putting the flags out regardless of the major cold here on Sunday.

NATIONAL DAY OF UNPLUGGING--  **  Get unplugged from those 'putes and "idge" phones.

Living in Today's World: Dustin-- The Comic Strip Pages Don't Crash

From the August 21, 2016, Dustin comic strip.

Dustin and the young neighbor friend are lying on the floor in the living room reading the comics in the newspaper.

Frame 1:  Dustin:  "It used to be the way we all read the comics."  Friend:  "Wow!"

Frame 2:  Dustin:  "Pretty cool, right?"  Friend:  "The weirdest thing is ..."

Frame 3:  Friend:  "... no pop up ads."  Dustin:  "Plus, it never crashes."

I remember anxiously waiting to get the Sunday comics from my dad as I was growing up and then reading them on the floor.  And, I still get most of my regular, non-blog, news from newspapers.  Few things finer than sitting out on the front porch, gazebo or back deck with a cup of coffee and today's newspaper.

I am sure going to miss it when the time comes and there are no longer any print newspapers.

Wow! Back on the Internet for First Time Since Thursday Night's Storm

The tornadoes that caused a mass of destruction across northern Illinois on Thursday, knocked out our cable TV and internet which finally restored a few hours ago.  Our provider in MediaCom which is based out of Iowa and has our town as well as the counties out west of DeKalb, Illinois, that were hit.  We had tornado warnings and storms here in northeast McHenry County, but  because those areas to the west were hit, we lost service here as well.

Then, when I went back o n this old 'puter, I found I had been banished out to Siberia or some other foreign place as I had never seen the home page before.  Thankfully, Liz was able to get me squared away, so here I am.

Fun Times Here on the Frozen Tundra- Part 3: Complaining-- Chirping-- Garage Door

JSS-- Just Some Stuff. //// Just Some Stuff About This Really Crummy Winter We're Having. 1. EVEN SNOWMOBILERS AND SKIERS COMPLAINING-- Many of our friends are big-time snowmobilers and skiers and even THEY are beginning to complain. Join the club. //// 2. WEATHER BUG CHIRPING-- Just try to turn on the old 'pute and not be driven nuts by the Weather Bug's chirping away for weather warnings and alerts. Take care of them, and they're back really soon. 3. GARAGE DOOR-- This is a new one for me, but just about anytime I lower the garage door, it comes back up because of snow and ice under it. I finally learned not to take off my shoes/boots until I knew it was really down. Otherwise, I just end up putting my boots back on. //// JSS and Not So Wonderful. --RoadDog

First Me, Then Homer

Over the weekend, I got an I-Pad and am in the process of learning how to use it.  That will take awhile.  I am a notoriously slow-learner when it comes to new technology.

Then, watching the Simpsons tonight, I see that Homer got an I-Pad and had to undergo the sign-in, something akin to getting a mortgage or signing your first-born away to the Jobs.

Jus' Listnin'

Sitting here at the old compute, an obsolete personal computer (but I like it), and a-typin' away with my two little fingers and listenin'.

Right now, I am streaming Greenville, North Carolina's WNCT with its great Beach Music.  Like they say, "Beach, Boogie and Blues."  When Allen Vick goes off at 10, 9 our time, I'll switch over to 94.9 the Surf out of North Myrtle Beach, SC and Ted Bell.

I also have Chicago's WXRT and Lin Braemer on the radio and was listnin' to the The Color and Shape CD by Foo Fighters earlier and the Don't Mess Around With Jim CD by Jim Croce right now.  That Croce was something and it was way too bad that we lost him so early.  "Hard Time Losin' Man" and "Walkin' Back to Georgia" are two GREAT songs!!  Plus, this album has my all-time favorite Croce song "Operator."

As you can see, I multi-listen.

Allen Vick's Beach Boogie & Blues Show WNCT-AM

Most every morning, I tune into Allen Vick's Beach Music show on WNCT 1070 AM, from 6-10 am EST, out of Greenville, North Carolina. Great music and local news and weather; my family lives in Goldsboro, Mt. Olive, Kenansville and Warsaw.

Yesterday, I enjoyed Allen talking about his mother which reminded me of my own to an extent. His mother had been very anti anything and anybody having anything to do with computers, just like my mom.

However, his mom got a laptop and high speed access and now is Ms. Computer Head and can't get enough of it. She is even into Facebook. My mom, however, still abhors anything to do with computers. She says she wants to learn, but won't take the time. She'd rather see her friends and family face-to-face.

Plus, Allen believes that modern music is pretty bad (like myself), but his wife is into the new stuff and lets him know when there is a song that could be classified as Beach and he played one by Train.

My wife doesn't like hardly anything after the 1960s.

Myself, I liked most everything in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Starting in the 90s, it dropped to about 50 per cent and still stays there now.

Guess Who Figured Out How to Use Bold?

You'd probably never figure out who accidentally learned how to use bold in these entries. I'm so proud of myself.

Who says you can't teach a very old dog new tricks?

I am, however, having a problem figuring out how to turn it off.

Hey, Mom, Welcome to the Real Internet

Mom just might get on the internet today, and I'd like to be the first to welcome you. Make sure you thank Bob and Judy for getting that laptop for you, ESPECIALLY after all they went through. Hopefully Annsley and Julie taught you enough about using it to get you started.

No more Web TV for you, or excuses as to why you couldn't get something. Make sure to send along your new e-mail address.

Got My Headlines Back

Went to the Help Section here and saw a note that some people were unable to get their headlines to work. I must, then, be special as a "some people".

It said to click onto the middle of the headline field until they can straighten it up. This immediately worked. Thanks blogspot.

I am NOT a big techno guy, and just the smallest thing can really throw me off.

Before seeing the notice, I did find a way to put a new header on the site. Sometimes you just back into things.
