Bass player / vocalist and founding member of Status Quo.  Huge in Britain, but only one Top 40 in U.S. with "Pictures of Matchstick Men" which went to #12 in 1968.  

Talk about psychedelic!!  One of my all-time favorite songs.  That intro!!  Wow!!

Music Deaths: Tim Bogert of Vanilla Fudge, Cactus and Beck, Bogert and Appice

Died 13 January 2021

Rock bassist.  Played with Jeff Beck, Vanilla Fudge and Cactus.

Known for his powerful vocal ability and fast runs, fluid agility and sound on his Fender bass guitar.  

Worked often with drummer Carmine Appice and the duo performed together with the groups Vanilla Fudge, Cactus and Beck, Bogert and Appice.  (Jeff Beck)

Vanilla Fudge, of course, had those psychedelic remakes of songs and nobody could Rock better than Cactus, which unfortunately was not as well known.  I played their first album, Cactus, a whole lot.

Music Deaths: Jan Savage of the Seeds

JAN SAVAGE, 77

Died 5 August 2020

Guitarist with the Los Angeles garage psychedelic rock band Seeds who had the big hit "Pushing Too Hard"  (#36-1967).  They also charted well with the song "Can't Seem to Make You Mine."

Had the psychedelic sound down very well.  A lot of their success came from Jan Savage with his guitar playing.  Lead singer was Sky Saxon.

Very unique sound all around.  A master of the fuzz guitar.

Wonder how they came up with the name Seeds?

Music Deaths: Roky Erickson of the 13th Floor Elevators

ROKY ERICKSON, 71

Died May 31, 2019

Singer, songwriter of the psychedelic band 13th Floor Elevators from Austin, Texas.  They were a One Hit Wonder band with just "You're Gonna Miss Me" (#55-1966)

Early in her career, Janis Joplin considered joining this band.  The band was a vocal proponent of the use of marijuana and  and psychedelic drug use and as such, were constantly under  attention of law enforcement groups.  They were the first group to call it Psychedelic Rock.

If you haven't heard this song, go to You Tube.  Very interesting.  Surprised that it didn't chart higher (excuse the pun).  Also, they have an hour-long album "The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators."  Worth a listen.  They sure liked that strange sound on their songs.
