JSIS--   Just Some Interesting Stuff

1.  CHICAGO'S MAYORAL ELECTION--  Many, many folks running for it after the Rahm "decided" not to run after the McDonald affair.  But, one thing I am enjoying about the commercials is that they are not attacking each other, but saying what they want to do.  I get so tired of all the mud-slinging in the other elections.  

Listening to the other commercials, it would appear that all of the candidates should be in jail or in one of the lower realms of hell.

2.  GRAMMYS--  Watched parts of the Grammy Awards on Sunday.  I was amazed at how many musicians I'd never heard of before.  Guess I am now officially out of the music loop.

3.  TAX COMMERCIALS--  I don't know about you, but I sure am tired of the near-constant barrage of do-your-tax commercials we are getting bombarded with until April 15.  Need a break.  And they will be happy to get you your refund immediately for a NOMINAL FEE.

Won't Life Be So Much Finer After Tomorrow

Tired.  I am so tired of all this election mess.  I'm so tired.  And, it has been going on for two years.  That is much of what passes for TV and radio commercials today here in Illinois.  And, there are more signs by the roads than I ever saw.  Talk about your sign clutter.

Much money has been spent by both Democrats and Republicans.

If we are to believe these commercials, pretty much everybody running for office should be arrested immediately and thrown into jail.  We have reached a new low in mudslinging.  To hell with what a candidate believes, let's slam something their opponent did.

Democrats are saying their opponents have Trump connections and Republicans are tying Democrats to the much-hated Illinois Speaker of the House, Michael Madigan.

We have a major contest for Illinois governor going on.  Both men are extremely rich.  Bruce rauner, current governor is very anti-Union which we don't like.  J.B. Pritzer is Madigan's man.  Picking the lesser of the two evils, I'd have to say we'll vote for Brauner.

JSIS--  Just Some Interesting Stuff


1.  A TO Z--   The Drive Finishing their nearly 2,000 songs classic rock A to Z show that started last Friday.  Sure have been enjoying it.  Not much Beach Music for me in the meantime.


2.  EARLY MAINE ELECTIONS--  On the 6th, I heard that two small Maine towns cast their votes just after midnight.  One was a tie, 5 to 5 for president, and the other fairly much an Obama landslide 23-9.

3.  STILL SOME POLITICAL ADS ON NOV.6TH--  Sadly, I was still subjected to a couple political ads on this date.  When will it end.


4.  AMERICA POLARIZED--  Looking at a map of states which went for Obama and Romney reminded me a bit of the Lincoln 1860 election, but reversed.  The Northeast, Midwest for Obama (In 1860 for Lincoln, the Republican).  The South solid for Romney, the Republican.  Guess that old saying "Yellow Dog Democrat" for Southerners can be changed to "Yellow Dog Republican."

Plus, hopefully the really rich should come to know that there are a lot of people who really are not happy with them.


5.  PUERTO RICO--  Took a vote Nov. 6th and by a slim margin, people voted to be the 51st state.  I'm thinking they should remain just as they are or become an independent country.


6.  NOREASTER STRIKES--  Sad that the Northeast was hit again, this time by a Noreaster, and those things can be just as bad as a hurricane.

It's Them, Not Me: Throw 'Em All in Jail

Help!!  I'm getting gagged with all these political ads bombarding me wherever I look or listen.  Then, the post office has to be making up some of their deficit with all the campaign stuff we're getting.

And, if you believe the ads and commercials, it doesn't matter whether the candidate is Republican or Democrat, they all must be crooks, liars, evil and hang out with the "wrong" sort. Here's a thought, lets throw 'em all in jail and get some people who don't want to be politicians take their place.

This close to the election and I haven't made up my mind for president.  Romney is one of those GRBs.  And I hate GRBs and in no way trust them at all.  Obama makes lots of promises, but he is ineffective.

Maybe I'll vote for anyone who says they will start raising the interest rates on the CDs which are ridiculously low to make it easier for the GRBs to invest and make their millions.

Has anyone figured out how much interest $10,000 in a CD gets for six months at .01%.

JSIS: Stones Tickets-- Goodbye Ozzie-- Political Advertising

1.   STONES TICKETS--  Folks are abuzz about what think will be the last Rolling Stones shows, just four of them and tickets are huge with standing-room only tickets going for $3,702 for one London show.  I like the Stones, but definitely not that much.  Monday, I went to the local Mom and Pop record store, The Vinyl Frontier, and bought the Stone's CD with "Satisfaction" on it.  I can't remember the name of it.  At least, I can afford that.


2.  GOODBYE OZZIE--  One year and gone.  The "Mouth" is out of that cushy Miami Marlins job after just one year.  I liked him with the Sox, especially in 2005, but there is no room for all that public potty mouth.  And then, to say you admire Castro in Miami?  Pretty dumb move.  Time to think before engaging mouth, Oz.


3.  POLITICAL ADVERTISING--  About a week and a half to go and I'm sure tired of all the commercials.  Someone found out that Democratic ads were really heavy on "Two Broke Girls" and Republican ones on reruns of "The Andy Griffith Show."  Not sure what all this means.

But, above all else, I sure am glad Illinois is not considered a swing state.  People in those states are really getting the dose of mudslinging.

1. HEAVEN HELP US!!!-- The politicians are UPON us as primary voting draws near this Tuesday. Way TOO many phone calls. Way TOO many ads and commercials. WAY TOO MUCH MUDSLINGING. I'm voting for he or she who slings the least.


2. BOAT CHOMPIN'-- With all the warm weather (it's been in the 70s all week) everyone here in the Chain of Lakes land is chompin' at the bit to put our boats in the water. Yesterday, we saw a couple out on Nippersink Lake in Fox Lake, Illinois.

I'm hoping to get ours out when I get back from NC in a couple weeks. The last several years we didn't get out until June or July.

That is, of course, if we can afford the gas which is always much higher on the water.


3. FIRST FLOWERS-- I have our first daffodil in water in the house!! The smell of spring!!!

It's Them, Not Me: Too Close to Call

Definitely some mad voters out there. Mad at the economy, mad at politicians in general and mad at the dirty campaigns and commercials we've been inundated with the last several months.

Elections were mostly close here in Illinois.

Republican Kirk beat Democrat Giannoulias for US Senate by 48.4% to 46.1%. At least we are spared another hard-to-spell and pronounce name after Der Blago. And perhaps we'll have the first bona fide US Senator there since four years ago.

This is the Senate seat held by Barack Obama while he was running for president. And then we had Blago's appointment of even less-effective Burris. Between the two of them, we have not had Illinois representation since 2006.

The governor's race is still, at 11:01 am, too close to call with less than 6,000 votes separating Quinn (who leads) and Brady.

With the Republicans capturing the US House of Representatives, hopefully both parties will see that people are tired of the same-old, same-old.

The Chicago Tribune always runs political cartoons from around the country every Saturday on their editorial page. This past Saturday was all devoted to this year's political campaign and pretty-well sums it up for me.

It's Them, Not Me: Thankfully About Over

We have, by my count, one more day where we have to be affronted with all this mudslinging that's been going on the last several months. I thought it was bad last year, but things have gone to the extreme.

If we slung this much mud last year, we have to sling that much plus this year.

If I could find a non-mudslinger, I'd vote for that person.

Right now, with the state of the economy and the United States, I've got a mind to vote for anyone who is not an incumbent.

To hear the different camps, everyone running is a crook, a criminal and not to be trusted. Evidently, they are right.

MUSINGS FROM A CONFUSED MIND: One nice thing about egotists, they don't talk about other people.

Nasty Politics as Usual

Glad to see Illinois isn't the only place with nasty politics. I'm referring to candidates who, instead of concentrating on what they want to do, attack their opponents.

There is a particularly virulent example of this going on for the North Carolina Democratic gubernatorial nomination. The opponents are Bev Perdue (no relation to chicken that I know of) and Richard Moore. Listening to what they have to say about each other, both should be in jail for the horrible things they have done. Of course, North Carolina's primary is coming up in May.

My own response to this sort of campaigning is not to vote for either person. I don't support mud-slinging, and besides, it's too hard to clean off. We had a campaign like that about six years ago for Illinois governor. My response was
to vote for a third party in way of a protest.

Most likely, Obama will win here in NC. Most of the whites in the state are Republican and blacks are Democrats. He also has been running lots of commercials. I just recently started seeing them for Clinton. Her campaign commercials are nothing like what I've ever seen before. She is to be commended for them.

Missed seeing Fred Smith who is a Republican running for governor Wednesday when he spoke at Goldsboro's beautifully rebuilt Paramount Theater. Country singer Lee "God Bless the USA" Greenwood appeared with him. We didn't know about it until too late. Most people expect Charlotte's mayor to win this contest.

While eating at the Salvation Army's plate lunch Thursday, Will Bland, candidate for circuit judge, ate with us. Seems like an honorable man, someone I wouldn't have a problem voting for. But, I live in Illinois.
