BOBBY VEE, 73 Died October 24, 2016.
His career began with an unpaid appearance in his native Fargo, North Dakota, as a fill-in on Buddy Holly's ill-fated Winter Dance Party..
Before that, he had been in a group called the Shadows which featured a person calling himself Elston Gunn (Bob Dylan) for a short time. As the group Bobby Vee and the Shadows they had one hit with "Suzie Baby (#77-1959).
He was signed by Liberty records and had a string of big hits:
Devil or Angel (#6-1960)
Rubber Ball (#6-1961)
Take Good Care of My baby (#1-1961)
Run to Him (#2-1961)
The Night Has a Thousand Eyes (#3-1963)
He was hurt by the British Invasion, but did have a come-back hit with 1967's "Come Back When You grow Up" which went to #3.
Altogether, he charted in the Top 100 a total of 38 times in 12 years.
One of My Favorites.
