The history of the United States Marine Corps began on November 10, 1775, when two battalions of Continental Marines were formed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
They were a force of infantry which could operate on both land and sea (and now air).
All across the United States and the world today Marines are celebrating the birthday.

I will be going to a Marine Birthday celebration at the Fox Lake (Illinois) American Legion this Saturday.
