The Sad Case of Joe Gliniewicz
I must say that the revelations of this past week concerning this police officer whom everyone believed to be a hero who died in the line of duty in Fox Lake, Illinois, have been more than a little upsetting.
At first, it was hard to believe he had committed suicide which was bad enough, but then to learn that the suicide was committed to avoid the fall out from his stealing money from the Explorer Post he ran, well that was a real knockout punch.
His death caused much fear and worry here in the Fox Lake area (we live five miles from the village). Plus, the amount of grief and public outpouring toward his family was unprecedented. I doubt that any police officer had received more recognition from his town.
We attended two fund raisers as well as spent hours out on US-12 when they had the two+-hour procession from his funeral to the cemetery.
I sure wish we had known about the stealing and myriad of other things he did that were not square before we went trough all of that.
However, I'm just going to think we also did it to honor other police officers who have fallen in the line of duty and will continue to keep my blue light on.

CILLA BLACK, 72. Died August 1, 2015. Signed by the Beatles manager Brian Epstein. Born 1943. had a string of hits with "Anyone Who had a Heart" written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Also "You're My World." Both hit #1 in Britain.
LYNN ANDERSON, 67. Died July 30, 2015. Had the huge cross-over hit "Rose Garden" (#3-1971)

The 30th annual Farm Aid Concert was held September 19, 2015, at Chicago's Northerly Island. Featured were Neil Young, John Mellancamp, Willie Nelson and Mavis Staples.
Forbes Magazine announced their annual list of top-earning dead celebrities. leading the list this year is Michael Jackson with $115 million. Elvis Presley is at #2 with $55 million.

JSS: Warm-- Bears Outside-- Boating
JSS-- Just Some Stuff
1. WARM-- After a very chilly and rainy Halloween, we have had great weather since then ans it will continue until Friday. I mean shorts and tee shirt weather. Got to enjoy that now as by next week, you-know-what will be here. Temps in the 70s!!
2. BEARS OUTSIDE-- It has been so nice, we even were able to watch Da Bears lose again outside at Kenny's place on Sunday.
3. BOATING- Well, boating season is over. Planning to pick up the boat today at the marina and take it out to Hebron for the winter. This was not a very good boating season as we only hot the boat out 26 times. We normally shoot for 40.
Oh Well, Maybe next Year. --RoadDog

On November 1, 1894, the first Billboard Magazine "All That Is New, Bright and Interesting" was published. It cost a dime and consisted of 8 pages. This was its first weekly publication. Before that, it had been a monthly periodical called "Billboard Advertising." Its mission then and still is "to report and analyze the entertainment business."
Back then, however, they weren't listing top tunes as the publication is famous for nowadays. Its first national music chart was the ten-position "National List of best Selling Retail Records" which appeared on July 27, 1940. Previously the magazine had highlighted "Sheet Music Best Sellers", "Records Most Popular on Music machines" and "Songs With the Most Radio Play" which was based on the playlists of a handful of New York radio stations.
The "National List" was the first one based on nationwide record sales.
In case you're wondering, Tommy Dorsey occupied the #1 spot with his "I'll Never Smile Again" with vocals by one Frank Sinatra. It spent 12 weeks at #1 and thrilled the Bobbysoxers.
The Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart debuted on March 24, 1956 and Billboard's Hot 100 premiered August 4, 1958, with Ricky Nelson's "Poor Little Fool" at #1.
To date, there have been 1,047 Number Ones.

Billboard and "Bohemian Rhapsody" Anniversaries
From the Billboard site.
On November 1, 1894, the "First Billboard Magazine: All That Was New, Bright and Interesting on the boards" was issued. It was eight pages long and cost ten cents. This was the first issue. I still consider it to be the final authority on music rankings.
Also, Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" turned 40 on November 1. That goes back to 1975.

A Good Old Spooky Time This Past Weekend-- Part 1
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30-- Had my annual physical then splurged at IHOP with a big breakfast and used all four syrups on my pancakes. Went to Meijer's and bought more Halloween candy and a caramel apple. Caramel apples are a special treat this time of year. I also bought a brick of audio cassettes and a container of pumpkin ice cream. I like anything pumpkin this time of the year.
Got our costumes out. Mine consists of a black Trick-or-Treat hat and a "Forget Candy, Give Me Beer" tee shirt. Liz's consists of a "I Don't Do Costumes" tee shirt. We are what you call overdressers. Went to Donovan's along with our screaming witch and Wizard of Oz snow globe.
Later we were at the Legion. Folks getting onto spooky mood.
Came home to find that some of my Halloween lights were out.

Is Candy Corn the Absolute Worst? A Ranking of Halloween Candy

Well, this is his list. I definitely do not agree with many of his rankings, but I reckon it's a matter of taste.
1. Fun-size versions of first line candy like Kit-Kats and Crunch. (Agreed)
2. Fun-size versions of knock-off candy bars. (Agreed)
3. Nerds
4. Starburst
5. Tootsie Rolls (Too chewy and stick to teeth)
6. Sweet Tarts (Boy, that's TART!! Mouth just drops open.)
7. Those generic, wrapped in g\foil candies
8. Healthy options
9. Things that are decidedly not candy
10. Candy corn
I don't know about this last one. One of my favorites and one that has to be eaten in three bites, one for each flavor. I like those pumpkins as well.
