Listen to this man. Seven years of college, you know. Trying to reason with 2020 and, now, 2022.

WLS Top 30 for Week of June 12, 1972-- Part 1: 'How Do You Do'

And, if you're really into 1972 (like me), Bob Stroud is doing his annual salute to Summer 50 Years ago today.  That would make it 1972.  He is playing music on the radio and in your record collection.  He is on Chicago's WDRV, 97.1 FM, the Drive today.  It streams.  All times Central.  The whole show will be on again tonight from 9 pm to midnight.

He will be playing many of these songs.

These are the Top 30 songs and some Bubbling Under in Chicago fifty years ago according to Powerhouse WLS, 890 AM.

The * in front of the song means the song was climbing the charts.  The number after the artist is how high the song got on the Billboard Hot 100 National charts.

BUBBLING UNDER

*HAPPIEST GIRL IN THE WHOLE U.S.A.--  Donna Fargo     #11       Country goes pop.  From Andy Griffith's hometown of Mt. Airy, North Carolina, which Mayberry was based on.

*COUNTRY WOMAN--  Magic Lantern     #88     Never heard of it, but a real rocker.  They may or may not have been the Magic Lanterns at one time who had a hit with "Shame, Shame" (#29-1968).

30.  *HOW DO YOU DO--  Mouth & McNeil        #8     How can you not enjoy this song?  Quite the top she was wearing in the video.  I don't think Mouth was really playing that violin.  Their only Top 40 hit.

29.  *ROCKET MAN--  Elton John      #6     This one sure takes me back.

28.  *IMMIGRATION MAN--  Graham Nash & David Crosby      #36     Beautiful harmony.  Where's Stills and Young?

27.  BACK OFF BOOGLOO--  Ringo Starr       #9     And you thought Ringo couldn't make it on his own.   This was his second of seven straight Top Tens, including two #1s.

26.  *I'VE BEEN LONELY FOR SO LONG--  Frederick Knight        #27     Quite a voice.  Comment:  he also wrote "Ring My Bell" for Anita Ward.  His only Top 40.

Name That Tune (from the above songs):  "He Said He Didn't Know If He Can Let Me In."  Answer below.  --RoadDog
