Listen to this man. Seven years of college, you know. Trying to reason with 2020 and, now, 2022.

Fourth of July here in NE Illinois-- Part 2: July 4th

After the parade, we went over to Horse Fair Park and had an ear of corn and waited for the crowd to clear out.  Lots of food stands and activities going on throughout the day.

Stopped at Antonio's for a couple on the way home.  Most bars/restaurants in Spring Grove close for holidays, but they had decided to open until 4 PM.  Of course, Never Sink In (a play on Nippersink Creek which runs through the village) was open and packed during the parade and all day and night.  It is right by Main Street and the Horse Fair Park.

Came home and did some yardwork before going back to Horse Fair Park to watch the Mr. Myers band play their special kind of Caribbean rock, complete with steel drums.  We have been watching this band ever since they started back in 1981 in DeKalb, Illinois (NIU).  The leader is Todd Donnalley, and we have known him for that amount of time as well.  They used to play regularly at our college hangout at Andy's right on the old Lincoln Highway.

We were joined by several friends who had never seen them before, but are now fans.

They played right up until time for the fireworks to start.  We had planned on watching them from the front porch of our house as we usually do, but the fireworks started before we got to the car, so watched from there.  Spring Grove always puts on one of the better shows.

The cops struck again as we were leaving.  We needed to go south to get home, but they had that route closed off and we had to drive way north, almost to 173, before getting over to Wilmot Road to head south back to the house.
