Sang with the Rainbows in 1956 which also included Marvin Gaye and Billy Stewart. Now there was a talented group. Formed Don Civay & the Goodtimes and his composition, "Pony Time:" reached #60 in 1961. It reached #1 for Chubby Checker later that year.
Cowrote "See Saw" with Steve Cropper which reached #44 in 1965, but was a huge hit for Aretha Franklin. His biggest two hits were :I Was Checkin' Out, She Was Checkin' In (#29 ub 1973) and "Mercy mercy" (#35 in 1964).
Wrote "Letter Full of Tears" for Gladys Knight & the Pips (#19 in 1962), Aretha's "Chain of Fools" (#2 in 1967) and "Sookie, Sookie" the "B" side of Steppenwolf's "Magic Carpet Ride."
A Man Most Don't Know, But He'll Sure Be Missed.
