Deaths: "Disc Girl" Samantha Juste (Monkee Mickey's Wife)-- Part 1

From the Feb. 10, 2014 (UK) Ielegraph "Disc girl"-- put needle on record." //// SAMANTHA JUSTE, 69. Died Feb. 10, 2014. //// Well, right away, I had to find out for sure what a "disc girl" was. Why wouldn't she be called a disc jockey? Also, there was something about her being on a British TV show called "Top of the Pops." (TOTP) //// Samantha Juste replaced the original "disc girl," Denise Sampey on the TOTP just a short time after the show debuted January 1, 1964. Disc girls looked pretty and spun the records while the featured artists mimed along to the song. And looking at pictures of her back then, she sure had the looking pretty bit locked up. //// She was paid a whole ten guineas a show (even though on occasion she'd play a record at teh wrong speed, making the group look a little silly). The very first TOTP show was aired Jan. 1, 1964, and had these groups of popular British groups playing: Rolling Stones, Dusty Springfield, Dave Clark Five, Hollies, Swinging Blue Jeans, Cliff Richard & the Shadows and Freddie and the Dreamers. (What! No Beatles??) //// Love Those "Disc Girls."
