Listen to this man. Seven years of college, you know. Trying to reason with 2020 and, now, 2022.

Music Deaths: Lincoln "Chips" Moman

LINCOLN "CHIPS" MOMAN, 79

Died June 13, 2016.

Producer and recording studio owner.  Born in Georgia but made his name in Memphis.

Played guitar with Johnny Burnette and Gene Vincent.

Joined STAX Records in Memphis and produced Carla Thomas' "Gee Whiz" and Booker T's "Green Onions."  The story has it that Booker T's group was named the "M.G.'s" after Chip's car, but it could also mean Memphis Group.

He opened American Sound Studios and worked with the Gentrys on their "Keep On Dancing," The Box Tops on "The Letter," Marilee Rush's "Angel of the Morning," Sandy Posey's "Born a Woman" and Joe Tex's "I Gotcha."

His biggest triumph was producing Elvis Presley's "Memphis Sessions" which produced his comeback hits "Suspicious Minds," "In the Ghetto" and "Kentucky Rain."

He also produced Neil Diamond's "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show" and "Sweet Caroline.  He cowrote B.J. Thomas' "Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song" and Waylon Jennings' "Luchenback Texas."

This Man Had a Lot to Do With Many of My Favorite Songs.
