French singer/songwriter best known in the United States for the songs he wrote "Yesterday, When i Was Young" (#19-1969) Roy Clark, "If You Go Away" and "My Way" (#27-1969) Frank Sinatra.
He recorded more than 1,200 songs in seven different languages. He was involved in the French Resistance in World War II.
This man, though I have never heard of him before, led quite a varied life. Check out Wikipedia.
