Born George Wayne Schelton in Fort Wayne, Indiana. recorded as Gary Shelton and had a regional hits with "Kissin' at the Drive In" and "The Trance" in 1958.
He changed his name to Troy Shondell in 1959 and recorded his biggest hit "This Time" which was written by Waylon Jennings and Chips Moman. (#6-1961)
